Chapter 492: Chapter 492: The Death of Lin Man
Seeing that Shi Yan remained motionless, the man wasn’t panicked at all. He uncovered the blanket to confirm Shi Yan’s death, and then ignored him.
Glancing at Lin Man, the man asked, "Should we take her with us? She has seen us, and now she only has two choices: either come with us, or shut up forever."
The mission had been completed smoothly, and they would definitely get a large sum of money from the man behind the scenes. All things considered, the profit wasn’t bad.
The man sitting beside Lin Man did not speak but looked at Lin Man, seemingly passing the decision-making power to her.
Seeing the man look at her, Lin Man trembled with terror. Having now witnessed their methods, she finally understood what kind of people they were. In their eyes, killing people was as easy as slaughtering chickens. If she refused, she would likely meet the same end as Shi Yan.
Although leaving with them would probably be more painful than death, after seeing Shi Yan die right before her eyes, Lin Man didn’t have the courage to face death. Seeing the man tightening his grip on the knife, she hurriedly said, "I.. I’ll go with you."
"Smart choice, get dressed." The man was pleased with Lin Man’s response and casually threw her some clothes from the bedside.
He was in this line of work, but that didn’t mean he wanted to do it lifelong. He wanted a legitimate life in the future. He lacked education and had chosen a dead-end path. When he married and had children, he couldn’t allow them to follow the same path. Therefore, bringing an educated woman home and having several children seemed like a good plan. This woman could teach their children, ensuring they have a promising future.
Thinking about this, the man glanced at the other man and regretted sharing Lin Man with him. Now that Lin Man was about to have his children, she would be his woman... However, at least they were not from the same place.
After splitting the stolen goods and adding the money given by the man behind the scenes, everyone was pretty satisfied and thought about not continuing further.
The other man said, "You have to keep an eye on her. She’s not like some uneducated country girl. I think she’s pretty cunning. If she runs away, and our boss holds us accountable, we won’t be able to bear the consequences."
"I know," said the man sitting next to Lin Man, giving her a warning glance.
By now, Lin Man had put on her clothes. She didn’t dare speak or look at either of them. She could only pray inwardly that the train conductor would smell the strong scent of blood and call the train police to rescue her.
"Keep a good watch on her. Get ready to get off," the other man put away his knife, checked his surroundings, and then walked out of the compartment when he was sure no one else was around.
About ten minutes later, he came back in, whispering, "Let’s go."
The two men picked up the money from under the bed and left with Lin Man, who was shocked. The train hadn’t stopped; how could they leave?
Under the supervision of the two men, she walked to the front of the train carriage, only to find the door open, with several men already standing there. Seeing them coming, the other men glanced at each other, jumped off the moving train, and ran into the grass by the road after a few tumbles.
Just as Lin Man was terrified, the man behind her pushed her and said menacingly, "Jump off."
Lin Man instinctively took a step back, "I... I don’t dare to."
The man pulled out his knife and placed it against her back, "Believe it or not, my knife goes in white and comes out red."
Scared stiff, Lin Man’s legs went limp, "I’ll jump."
"Quickly, don’t dilly-dally," the man clearly was running out of patience, his knife breaking Lin Man’s skin.
Having failed to buy some time, Lin Man could only bite her lip and jump. However, as she was jumping, her clothes caught on the door. She screamed as she fell under the wheels, even hearing the sound of her bones shattering...
Until the moment she died, Lin Man couldn’t believe that she had just perished in this manner...
"Damn it...what a bad omen..." The man spit on the ground.
He had thought he could bring home an educated wife, but who knew this woman was so stupid? She couldn’t even jump off a train properly and got caught underneath it.
"She’s dead, maybe we can even earn more money from that boss. You can choose whatever kind of woman you want later. Let’s go!" After saying this, the man who killed Shi Yan jumped off the train while carrying the bag...
...
Time rewinds back to a few days ago.
Tong Yao began arranging things to set up a stall to sell goods. The prices at which Guo Jinnian purchased the goods were quite low. Their main aim was to quickly dispose of them, so the selling price wasn’t high either. They had a booming business at the university entrance.
Tong Yao, being aesthetically pleasing, drew a lot of attention. Whichever hairpin she wore was met with a surge in demand. Guo Jinnian and Gu Hongwei couldn’t understand why these female students were going crazy over it.
Both of them were incredibly busy handling the money. For several days in a row, they sold all the merchandise and even made a small profit. Initially, Guo Jinnian and Tong Yao planned to divide the money into three parts, but Gu Hongwei persistently refused to take his share.
Guo Jinnian’s impression of Gu Hongwei improved a little because of this. Furthermore, once the swelling on Gu Hongwei’s face subsided, he appeared more attractive, which pleased Guo Jinnian, a fan of good looks.
Having disposed of the stock, the trio felt relieved. Tong Yao was in a great mood. That night, she cooked a few dishes. After a hearty meal, she and Guo Jinnian sat in the living room watching TV, while Gu Hongwei read the newspaper.
Tong Yao was engrossed in the television show when the phone in the hall went off. She had been in touch with Wang Chun regularly these past few days and initially assumed it was him calling. But she was surprised when she picked up.
"Zhao Wenkai?"
"Miss Tong, are you surprised to receive a call from me?" Zhao Wenkai’s voice came leisurely from the other end.
"A little." Tong Yao didn’t know why Zhao Wenkai would call her in the middle of the night. Raising an eyebrow, she inquired, "Mr. Zhao, may I ask why you’re calling me? Our relationship, to my understanding, is not intimate enough for us to have phone conversations."
Wang Chun often called her, so Tong Yao wasn’t surprised that Zhao Wenkai had her home phone number.
It would have been easy for Zhao Wenkai to get her number.
Zhao Wenkai chuckled and said, "You’re friends with Achun, and indirectly that makes us friends too. It shouldn’t be a big deal for me to call you, right?"
"Mr. Zhao, stop beating around the bush. Can you tell me directly why you called?" Tong Yao said.
Zhao Wenkai had already sent a lawyer to negotiate a divorce with Wang Chun and fully compensated everything due to Wang Chun, even more than Tong Yao had expected. It was precisely because Zhao Wenkai seemed to be an honest person in this regard that she hadn’t hung up on him.
"Miss Tong, you are very forthright. Miss Tong, would it be convenient for you to meet tomorrow?" asked Zhao Wenkai.
Tong Yao furrowed her brows, "What do we have to talk about?"
"Miss Tong, please don’t misunderstand. I’m only asking you out to discuss Achun’s matters. If you are not comfortable coming alone, you can bring two of your friends."
The implication was clear - he knew about Tong Yao, Gu Hongwei, and Guo Jinnian running a stall together. 𝚗𝚘v𝚙𝚞b.𝚌𝚘m
After a two-second hesitation, Tong Yao agreed, "Tell me where."
If she didn’t meet Zhao Wenkai, he would find another way to do so.
