Thinking of Diana’s open adoration for Si Chen, Tong Yao couldn’t help but comment, "Foreigners are quite bold with their emotions."
In their own country, even if one had designs on another woman’s husband, they would keep it a secret, like Zhou Minyue. Very few would dare to admit it openly and provoke the wife face to face.
Si Chen, holding Tong Yao’s hand, lightly explained, "Diana is a girl who grew up spoiled by her family. She’s a bit headstrong, enjoys challenges, and possesses the innocence of a child. She doesn’t genuinely have feelings for me."
Rumors had spread in the school that Si Chen was titled the ’Ice Prince’. When Diana heard that Si Chen never indulged the beautiful girls at the academy, she developed a desire to conquer him, to validate her charm, not out of affection.
Si Chen is an adult whose goal is to learn as much as possible to serve his country and reunite with his family. He has no interest in dealing with her nonsense.
Tong Yao acknowledged his explanation with a long-drawn "Oh" and teasingly said, "So that’s how it is? Dr Si has quite a deep understanding of Diana."
Just as they were by the stairs, ready to go up, Si Chen hearing Tong Yao’s words, gently pushed her against the wall, and said with a faint smile, "I understand you even better."
Stunned by Si Chen’s assertive move, Tong Yao blushed, unable to suppress a smile. Pushing Si Chen’s chest she teased, "Dr Si seems to have mastered the art of wall-slamming. You must’ve been very diligent abroad."
Si Chen arched an eyebrow, "Wall-slamming?"
She explained, "It’s when you pin a girl against the wall like this."
A muffled laugh escaped Si Chen, and he suddenly leaned towards her, causing her to instinctively close her eyes. But Si Chen playful knocked on her forehead, saying, "Stop fantasizing. People pass by here often."
Taken back, Tong Yao pushed him away and walked up the stairs, leaving Si Chen behind, his laughter growing louder. This left her quite annoyed. This guy had really picked up some bad habits abroad.
Upon returning home, Guo Jinnian had just woken up not long ago and was idly sitting in the living room. When she saw Tong Yao and Si Chen return, her mood brightened and she immediately complained, "This country is so inconsiderate. Even the newspapers are in English. How can I understand it? I can’t even fully recognize Chinese characters yet."
Upon hearing Guo Jinnian’s words, Tong Yao couldn’t help but laugh. She had completely forgotten that Guo Jinnian didn’t know English and could get bored in this place, "Are you hungry? Let’s have some breakfast first. Afterward, we can go out grocery shopping and cook lunch."
Indeed, Guo Jinnian was hungry and without any hesitation, she started eating the breakfast Si Chen had given her. In the meantime, she asked, "Yaoyao, what did the check-up results say? Are you expecting twins?"
Tong Yao nodded. Thinking of her children, her eyes couldn’t help but faintly curve like crescent moons, "Yes, they are twins indeed."
Guo Jinnian’s eyes lit up, more excited than even Tong Yao. She looked at Tong Yao’s blushing cheeks and said, "Yaoyao, have you noticed that since you became pregnant, you have been glowing more and more? You even look more beautiful than before."
Tong Yao touched her own cheek, not taking it seriously. She thought that Guo Jinnian was simply trying to cheer her up. "You’re really good at sweet talk now, aren’t you?"
Absorbed in observing Tong Yao’s face, Si Chen was silent for quite a while. Indeed, since she became pregnant, she appeared significantly more radiant, and her beauty was all the more enchanting.
Finishing her breakfast quite rapidly, the three of them then went to the local market to buy groceries. The area was populated with many youngsters from the nearby academy, hailing from all sorts of countries. Guo Jinnian had seen more foreigners in the past few days than she had in her entire life.
She was no longer fascinated by blondes, but she couldn’t help but stare at people with black skin. She found it intriguing and asked, "Yaoyao, why do black women have such voluptuous figures?"

Tong Yao had never really contemplated this before. After a while, she replied, "Perhaps that’s a unique trait of their race! Just like us, despite not having such curvy figures, our skin is better, rather delicate and smooth. They do not have skin as good as ours.
"I see."
These were things Guo Jinnian hadn’t noticed before. She had never even touched a foreigner, but she intuitively believed in what Tong Yao had said, though she couldn’t explain why.
On the side, Si Chen gave Tong Yao a surprised look. He hadn’t expected that she would have some understanding of this matter. Tong Yao was like a mystery, always capable of surprising you when you least expected it.
It didn’t take long for the three of them to reach the supermarket. Though the prices here were much higher than back home, Si Chen didn’t mind. He bought ingredients according to Tong Yao’s and Guo Jinnian’s tastes, and the three of them went home while chatting pleasantly.
Throughout their trip, Guo Jinnian did most of the talking. Everything here was so novel for her. The local development appeared more advanced compared to back home, but she still believed her own country was better. She was a patriot. It was nice to visit, but she didn’t entertain further thoughts.
On their way back, the previously clear sky suddenly turned gloomy. Si Chen looked up at the sky and frowned. "It’s going to rain soon. This season is prone to thunderstorms. You both should stay inside this afternoon. I will bring some books for you to read tonight."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao asked, "Could we borrow Chinese novels from your school? Jinnian is not accustomed to taking afternoon naps, so she might get bored."
Tong Yao had a good sleep schedule, she would nap in the afternoon. Considering Guo Jinnian was always brimming with energy, Tong Yao thought she would probably be bored. Having accompanied her from far away, she naturally cared about Guo Jinnian’s conditions.
Guo Jinnian thought it might be difficult to find Chinese novels in a foreign land, she quickly said, "It’s alright if you can’t find any. As long as I have Yaoyao with me, it’ll be okay."
If they could find some, that’d be great!
Si Chen asked, "Do you like martial arts novels? Fu Yiheng likes to read novels, so I can borrow from him."
Hearing this, Guo Jinnian quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, yes! Thank you in advance, Dr Si!"
Si Chen nodded in acknowledgment and didn’t say anything else. Once they got home, Si Chen went into the kitchen with the groceries. Soon the kitchen was filled with the enticing smell of cooking meat. Guo Jinnian kept on expressing her amazement. The most comfortable days of her life happened to be when she was with Tong Yao.
While they were eating, Si Chen occasionally added food to Tong Yao’s bowl and even helped her pick out fish bones. Guo Jinnian was incredibly envious. She secretly decided that upon returning, she would make Tong Yao’s brother find her an equally sweet companion.
After being single for over two decades, she needed someone to sweeten her life too.
After finishing their meal, Si Chen left for the academy. Not long after he left, the skies opened up, rain pouring heavily. Thankfully, he had taken his umbrella with him.
Tong Yao walked over to the window, and seeing the heavy rain outside reduce visibility, she suddenly felt worried. She had no idea where this inexplicable apprehension was coming from.
