Chapter 561: Chapter 561: Han Enzhen
The woman fell silent at Guo Jinnian’s words, casting a pitiful gaze at the two of them.
The water level was quite high, making it difficult to exert force. Since the car was floating, pushing it was not too heavy. Tong Yao, holding onto Guo Jinnian, circled to the back of the car and together, they managed to push the car away from the window. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂
Guo Jinnian urged, "Hurry up and get out! The water level is rising rapidly here, we need to leave quickly."
Guo Jinnian couldn’t swim and she was scared of staying there because the water level was too high.
Upon hearing this, the woman reached out to push the window. Unfortunately, it was already knocked out of shape and she couldn’t push it open. She burst into tears again, "I can’t open the window."
Hearing this, Guo Jinnian was immediately furious, "Can’t you find something to smash the window?"
The window was already half-broken. It was obvious that the woman had tried to smash it when asking for help. And now, was she putting on an act of weakness for them to see? Guo Jinnian despised such weak women.
Hearing this, the woman sobbed, "The water level was not so high before. I used my high heels to smash it. Now, my shoes have sunk to the bottom and the water level is too high. I can’t go underwater to get my shoes."
Guo Jinnian rolled her eyes. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Tong Yao say, "Move away from the window."
Hearing this, the woman and Guo Jinnian realized that Tong Yao had somehow found a baseball bat. Guo Jinnian held back her words and took the bat from Tong Yao, saying, "Yaoyao, let me do it. You stand behind me, don’t get hurt by the shattered glass."
After Tong Yao nodded and took two steps back, the woman also retreated a few steps. It wasn’t until Guo Jinnian had smashed the car window that she slowly climbed out. Seeing the accumulated water outside, the woman was immediately in despair, "I can’t swim."
Hearing this, Guo Jinnian rolled her eyes. Neither she nor Tong Yao was a man. This woman’s incessant crying and showing of weakness in front of them was truly annoying.
While Tong Yao was not a saint and did not have the heart of a bodhisattva, they were all Chinese after all. In dangerous circumstances, she doesn’t mind lending a hand, as long as it does not harm herself.
So she said in a crisp voice, "You can hold hands with Jinnian and follow behind me."
The woman nodded, scared and trembling as she held onto Guo Jinnian’s hand. She got the feeling that Guo Jinnian was a bit unwilling. To break the ice, she introduced herself, "My name is Han Enzhen."
Tong Yao hadn’t paid much attention to Han Enzhen’s looks before but upon hearing her name, she couldn’t help but take a closer look. The woman was quite pretty, with a bit of a mixed appearance. "Judging from your name, it has a strong H country flavor."
Han Enzhen didn’t expect Tong Yao to be so observant and immediately nodded, "My dad is Chinese and my mom is from H country."
Guo Jinnian threatened, "No one cares where you’re from. Just focus on walking. Don’t slow us down, or I won’t hesitate to leave you behind."
Upon hearing this, Han Enzhen immediately shut her mouth. She glanced at Tong Yao, who was leading the way, and after some thought, decided to speak, "If we head south, the terrain is higher. There’s a large mall there. Most locals are headed in that direction."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao asked, "Do you know where that mall is?"
Han Enzhen nodded, "I do. It’s not far from here."
Tong Yao asked her to lead the way and led both of them in that direction. Guo Jinnian felt that Han Enzhen was somewhat useful. She stopped crying and her attitude towards Han Enzhen improved. With an additional person in the team, Guo Jinnian felt somewhat safer.
In life-threatening situations, having someone to accompany her was comforting. If Han Enzhen didn’t know how to swim and she died, Han Enzhen would certainly not survive either. After all, if danger arose, Tong Yao would undoubtedly save her first.
The closer they got to the mall, the higher the water level got. The current became more rapid the closer they got to the mall. Realizing that there might be water gushing into the underground parking lot, Tong Yao decided it was too dangerous to continue towards the mall. If they were swept into the parking lot, they would surely lose their lives.
Upon thinking about this, she asked Han Enzhen, "Is there any other high ground around here?"
Han Enzhen glanced around and shook her head, "The water level is too high. Some of the safer areas are up to the door thresholds, we can’t go upstairs."
Tong Yao pondered for a while and asked, "Is there an overpass nearby?"
Han Enzhen’s eyes lit up, and she nodded, "Yes, it’s not too far to the west. Yaoyao, you’re so smart. I never thought about safety on the overpass."
When Guo Jinnian heard that it was in the west, she was instantly furious, "We were originally heading west. But you insisted on leading us south, causing us to walk so far in vain."
When did they become so familiar with Han Enzhen to call her Yaoyao? Han Enzhen was really desperate to survive as she tried to cozy up to them.
Han Enzhen didn’t dare to refute and Tong Yao didn’t say anything. Under these circumstances, she didn’t have the mood to manage Han Enzhen’s feelings. It was normal for Guo Jinnian to flare up due to fear of not being able to swim in these conditions.
The three of them walked west for a while and encountered a deep water area again. Han Enzhen was short. The water level reached her mouth where it was only up to Tong Yao’s neck. Although Guo Jinnian was tall, she couldn’t swim and could barely stand steady herself, let alone help Han Enzhen.
This won’t work, thought Tong Yao. She looked around and suddenly noticed a large piece of wood floating on the other side of the road. Her eyes lit up and she pointed at the wood, "Let’s go over there, sit on the wood, and paddle."
Both Guo Jinnian and Han Enzhen were delighted. The three of them moved towards the wood. The water level here was shallower, only up to their waists. The wood was about the size of three doors, big enough for the three of them to sit on. After being soaked in the water for a long time, they were all overjoyed at the sight of the wood.
Guo Jinnian swiftly climbed onto the wood and then pulled Tong Yao and Han Enzhen up. Having left the water, Guo Jinnian noticed that Tong Yao’s leg was injured. She felt heartbroken and guilty. Touching the spot where Tong Yao was hurt, she said, "Yaoyao, when did you get this cut on your leg? I didn’t hear you cry out in pain at all. I promised to protect you when we came here. Instead, I didn’t help you. You got hurt while taking care of me, while I acted like nothing had happened."
Tong Yao didn’t make a fuss over her leg wound and shook her head, "It’s okay. I’ll put some medicine on it when we’re safe. The wound has stopped bleeding."
Han Enzhen saw Tong Yao’s leg wound and involuntarily looked at her face. She hadn’t expected Tong Yao, despite her delicate appearance, to be so tough. She wanted to ask if Tong Yao’s wound was caused by the broken glass from the door window, but fearing Guo Jinnian’s scolding, she held back and remained silent.
The three of them found a small piece of driftwood and used it to paddle the large piece of wood forward. They had only slid about ten meters when they saw a tall foreign man appearing in the alley. He looked ferocious and upon seeing the three women, he quickened his pace towards them.
