Chapter 562: Chapter 562: My DVD Player is Still Inside

Han Enzhen was almost scared to tears, "What does that man want?"

Guo Jinnian was already on high alert, "Isn’t it obvious? He’s surely after our raft."

Tong Yao shook her head, "I don’t think so. I believe he wants to take someone."

As soon as that was said, Han Enzhen got so terrified that she almost let out a scream. At a time like this, if someone wanted to harm them, it was as if calling upon the heavens for help would bring no response, and calling on earth would be of no use—even the police may not find any evidence.

Seeing the man getting closer, Tong Yao picked up the stick, pointing at the man, and yelled in English: "Don’t come any closer, or we won’t be nice."

However, the man not only didn’t stop, but he also quickened his pace. Guo Jinnian jumped off the raft, "Yaoyao, you guys hurry up and paddle the raft away, I’ll handle him."

How could Tong Yao possibly leave Guo Jinnian behind to go first? This man looked sturdy, twice as heavy as Guo Jinnian. Tong Yao was worried that Guo Jinnian couldn’t handle him. She picked up a stick from the raft, preparing for an attack, waiting for the man to approach.

The man quickly approached Guo Jinnian and without hesitation, lunged at Guo Jinnian. As the man’s fist was heading towards Guo Jinnian’s face, she was quick to dodge, landing a punch on the man’s stomach. The man only staggered back a step but was ready to charge back to fight Guo Jinnian again. Seeing this, Tong Yao stood up and whacked the man on the back with the stick. She didn’t hold back, causing the man to let out a yell in pain. Guo Jinnian seized this opportunity and delivered another kick.

Tong Yao had a sudden idea, she shouted: "Kick him in the groin."

Guo Jinnian twitched at the corner of her mouth, surprised at Tong Yao’s dirty idea. But she obediently followed the instruction.

That kick wasn’t light. The man, clutching his groin, doubled over in pain, his face turned red, and gritted his teeth, losing all ability to fight. Guo Jinnian waved a finger at the man in a taunting manner and said, "Come here."

The man spat out an angry curse in English, not daring to act rashly again. Guo Jinnian climbed back on the raft, and together with Tong Yao, they paddled the raft away. They were lucky that the man had learned his lesson and decided to not give chase; however, his eyes filled with viciousness were fixated on the three of them all the way.

The sky was gradually darkening, the city without lights was very terrifying. Tong Yao could tell they wouldn’t reach the overpass before dark, so she found a rope, tied the raft to a tree branch on the roadside to prevent it from being swept away. The three of them decided to sleep on the raft and wait for dawn.

After that encounter with the man, they realized the danger they were in and decided they could not all sleep at once. They would have to take turns keeping watch.

In the meantime, Si Chen and Fu Yiheng arrived at their place of residence at 4 PM. Seeing that the foundation of the building was about to give away to erosion, Fu Yiheng swallowed, "Dr. Si, this place is falling apart and can crumble at any moment. It’s unsafe to go upstairs."

Before he had finished speaking, Si Chen had quickly ascended the stairs. Fu Yiheng hesitated for two seconds, cursed under his breath, then also run upstairs, only to discover that everyone had fled, and no one was there. Fu Yiheng breathed a sigh of relief.

"Your wife is quite smart, she knew she couldn’t stay in this building. She must have moved to a safer place. Let’s get out of here as well! There’s no sense of security here."

If this building were to crumble, anyone underneath wouldn’t even have a chance to be rescued. It would mean instant death. He was still young, and didn’t want to meet the King of Hell so early.

Si Chen ignored Fu Yiheng, grabbed a flashlight, and said solemnly: "You go downstairs first."

Fu Yiheng was puzzled, "Are you not going down?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Si Chen heading upstairs. Fu Yiheng became quite unsettled. Si Chen must be crazy; instead of going down, he was going up in a building that could crumble any minute. Was he trying to commit suicide?

He initially wanted to go downstairs. Still, after hesitating for two seconds, Fu Yiheng followed Si Chen upstairs. He saw Si Chen checking every floor until reaching the rooftop and seeing it was empty before he stopped.

"Dr. Si, can we go downstairs now? If we don’t go soon, this building is going to...,"

Fu Yiheng didn’t finish his sentence before the building swayed slightly. His face turned pale - don’t tell me it’s about to crumble?

Si Chen, perceiving the anomaly, cast a quick glance at a rooftop across from them, and ordered: "Jump over."

Fu Yiheng’s legs were giving out. He wanted to run but dared not, for fear that quick movement would accelerate the collapsing rate of the stairway. He thought Si Chen was out of his mind from not being able to find his wife.

The building opposite was one level lower and seemed easy to make the jump, but the distance was around three to four meters. He was a medical student, not a sports student. If he had such ability, he wouldn’t be a doctor.

"You’re nuts, Dr. Si...,"

Before Fu Yiheng finished speaking, Si Chen had taken two steps back to gain momentum and had already jumped across to the rooftop of the building opposite. Fu Yiheng was flabbergasted. He thought Si Chen’s action had sped up the collapsing rate of the stairway, so, without any hesitations, he gritted his teeth and jumped across, "Catch me."

Just as he finished speaking, he saw that Si Chen not only didn’t catch him but had stepped back. Fu Yiheng was on the verge of swearing. Luckily, he landed safely, though not as gracefully as Si Chen, he hadn’t been hurt. Just as he was about to brag, a loud crash sounded behind him. He turned his head just in time to see the building where they had just stood crumble into ruins.

Fu Yiheng was quite upset, "My DVD player was in there."

Si Chen said, "I’ll buy you a new one later."

Fu Yiheng was immediately consoled, "You better remember it."

Si Chen simply responded with a hum and turned to go downstairs. Fu Yiheng followed him and asked, "Where do you think Tong Yao would go now with the city flooded everywhere?"

When the flood water rushed into the Academy, the entrance here was severely flooded, nearly a person’s height, and was impassable. They had followed the crowd to detour from another exit. The road was heavily flooded; it was difficult to move ahead. After a tiresome journey, they did think the place would be safer because it was on higher ground. But, it turned out, it was even more dangerous than the Academy.

The building had collapsed.

He had no clue where Tong Yao could be.

Si Chen shook his head, "I’m not sure."

Tong Yao wasn’t familiar with this place. She was likely to follow the crowd. The safest place here was the overpass; it was very likely that she could have gone there.

Fu Yiheng felt Si Chen was lying because after descending the stairs, Si Chen walked in a specific direction and Fu Yiheng, not knowing where else to go, followed. When they reached an area where the floodwater was deep, Fu Yiheng was at a loss. He didn’t know how to swim.

He could somewhat manage shallow water, but the current was too strong, he unexpectedly lost his footing and fell, swallowing several gulps of water. He was about to get swept away when Si Chen pulled him up just in time.

"Stay close."

Fu Yiheng coughed out the dirty water from his mouth, wiped the water off his face, his complexion pale and simply nodded.
