Chapter 565: Chapter 565: Encounter Danger 2
Tong Yao gave Guo Jinnian CPR and artificial respiration at the same time. This went on for several minutes until Guo Jinnian coughed twice. Seeing this, Tong Yao’s eyes lit up with joy. She hurriedly helped Guo Jinnian sit upright.
Guo Jinnian threw up a bunch of water before finally regaining consciousness. A little dazed, she looked around and saw Tong Yao, which left her stunned. "Yaoyao, did you die too?"
Under the previous circumstances, Guo Jinnian thought she had died. Now seeing Tong Yao, she subconsciously thought Tong Yao was dead too. She suddenly felt teary and choked back tears saying, "It’s so dark. It seems we didn’t go to heaven but descended into hell. My goddaughter and godson aren’t even born yet. I failed to protect you."
She tried to touch Tong Yao’s belly, but failed to lift her arm due to the severe pain. She then remembered that the man had broken her arm before she "died". ’Why is there pain perception in hell?’ she wondered.
Listening to Guo Jinnian’s words, Tong Yao felt both pity and amusement. She quickly pulled Guo Jinnian into her arms and gently reassured her, "Jinnian, don’t be afraid. We’re not dead. I managed to have us escape. We survived."
Guo Jinnian’s body stiffened, "Really?"
Tong Yao nodded, "I’m not lying to you. Touch my face, it’s warm."
Guo Jinnian raised her left hand and touched Tong Yao’s face. Tears escaped her eyes and she drew in a shaky breath, "Yaoyao, my right arm was twisted and broken. It hurts a bit."
Guo Jinnian tried to hide her whimpering as she didn’t want to worry Tong Yao. She hadn’t cried for many years, and she had no idea whether the tears were due to the pain or the joy of survival.
Hearing this, Tong Yao was distressed. Supporting Guo Jinnian, she asked, "Can you stand? Let’s go to the rooftop. It’s safer there. There, we can find something to immobilize your arm. Ahchen’s medical skills are exceptional. He can definitely mend your bone. You’ll be just like new after a few months of rest."
Guo Jinnian nodded, "Doctor Si certainly seems like he’s highly skilled."
Tong Yao helped Guo Jinnian rise to her feet. As they were about to head upstairs, Han Enzhen, frazzled, asked, "What about me?"
Tong Yao glanced back and spoke softly, "Come upstairs. You’ll stand guard on the rooftop."
Hearing that she would still be on guard but in a different location, Han Enzhen exclaimed "Oh" and agreed without objecting. She hurriedly followed them. The place was so dark and intimidating, she didn’t want to stay there alone.
Tong Yao helped Guo Jinnian onto the rooftop. They were lucky to find a wooden stick there. She removed her jacket, tore it into strips, and used them as a tourniquet. She found a piece for Guo Jinnian to bite on while she immobilized her arm.
The pain caused Guo Jinnian to break out in a cold sweat and her body shook violently. But, she forbore from making any sound.
Seeing her like this made Tong Yao feel sorry. "Hang in there. When daylight comes, I’ll take you to the hospital. You won’t feel any pain if you have anesthesia."
Guo Jinnian nodded. Seemingly reverting to the composed and mature woman Tong Yao first met, she comforted her, "Yaoyao, don’t worry about me. This is no big deal. I’ve been in fights where my arm was nearly chopped off, and the pain was much worse. So this is nothing."
Tong Yao gave a weak laugh, "Once we’re back in China, I’ll introduce you to a good match. After that, you won’t have any more fights and will live a life of being pampered instead. You can finally have a good time."
Guo Jinnian hastened to say, "We need to set the record straight, I don’t want Gu Hongwei!"
Han Enzhen looked at them, wondering how they could joke around even under this situation.
Guo Jinnian’s words made Tong Yao chuckle, "Alright, I’ll introduce you to someone you like."
Guo Jinnian smiled happily, and quickly asked, "Yaoyao, are you and your baby alright? That man was so ferocious. How did you manage to help me escape? I thought I was going to die."
Thinking of the horrors of the earlier incident sent chills down Tong Yao’s spine. "I was alerted by the sound of water and woke up. My heart chilled when I realized you weren’t beside me. Seeing that man holding you under the water, I rushed forward to fight him. He grabbed my hair, but thankfully, Han Enzhen helped me pull you out of the water and saved me from him. After that, we hid with you."
To think that Han Enzhen had been such a big help, Guo Jinnian awkwardly said to her, "Thanks."
Han Enzhen was slightly surprised by Guo Jinnian’s gratitude and shook her head, "It was mainly because of Yaoyao’s quick thinking. I wasn’t much of a help. You should be thanking Yaoyao the most."
If it weren’t for Tong Yao’s quick response, they wouldn’t have been able to escape.
Guo Jinnian retorted smugly, "Between me and Yaoyao, there’s no need for thank you’s! Right, Yaoyao?"
Tong Yao chuckled and nodded, before turning serious, "We still can’t afford to let our guard down. That man has partners. They were probably split up to find us, but when he realized he couldn’t handle us alone, he went to find his friends. Han Enzhen said she saw a flashlight in the distance. That was likely them searching for us."
Upon hearing this, Guo Jinnian was put on alert. As she rose to look over the edge of the balcony, a light beamed up from below. Before she could react, she heard Tong Yao say, "Lie down quickly."
Han Enzhen and Guo Jinnian obediently squatted down as Tong Yao had said. A second later, the beam of light swept over the edge of the wall, then moved to another rooftop.
The three women were gripped by fear. The shining light in the middle of the night was clearly a sign that someone was being searched for. As for who it was, it didn’t need to be said.
Guo Jinnian sat back down and swore under her breath, then curiously asked, "We didn’t provoke them, so why are they hunting us like this? Is it because they saw the money I have?"
Tong Yao shook her head, "I don’t think so."
It was difficult to guess why the man would attack her based on the extreme violence he showed and his lack of communication.
Speaking softly, Han Enzhen suggested, "I think they’re perverts. There are many such perverts in this country. They like the appearance of us Chinese women and our skin is very good. Some perverts like imprisoning women for torture. At this time, if they catch us, there will be no trace of them."
Having spent several years in this country, Han Enzhen was more acquainted with these kinds of situations.
While the three had been together for a day, Guo Jinnian hadn’t had a conversation with Han Enzhen yet. Now, she couldn’t help but ask her, "Why are you in this country alone? Were you not able to stay in our country?"
Han Enzhen gave a huff, almost on the verge of tears. "I am studying abroad here. I was planning to return home in a few days. I didn’t expect this to happen. If I had known, I would have returned home earlier, instead of extending my stay."
