Chapter 645: Chapter 645: The Child Goes Missing
Hearing Gu Hongwei’s words, Zheng Xiaoshuang let him leave.
Having not seen the baby, Tong Yao had been restless. Maybe it was a hallucination, but she felt that the child should be fine.
When she had the baby, she clearly heard the baby crying loudly, and they didn’t opt for a cesarean section, proving that the situation wasn’t that severe. Now they were saying that the child wasn’t in a good condition.
The more Tong Yao thought about it, the more worried she became. Maybe she was just hungry, as her heart felt chaotic. Gu Hongwei came back after a very short while, having brought her something to eat and also having called the breeding farm.
"Yaoyao, I’ve already called Uncle Tong and explained the situation to him. To avoid making them worry, I didn’t go into the details. They said they’d first go back to Kyoto to bring the things they have prepared for the baby, then they’ll take the train here. They’ll probably reach here tomorrow night, or the day after tomorrow at the earliest." He only said the mother and child were safe, he didn’t go into details. Older people tend to worry more, and he was worried about Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun’s anxiety.
After all, Tong Yaohui couldn’t handle any stress right now.
Tong Yao was satisfied with Gu Hongwei’s actions. She knew that Gu Hongwei was a sensible person so when he went out for the call, she didn’t remind him of anything unnecessary.
"Thank you."
Being worried about her child, Tong Yao didn’t feel like talking much.
Seeing everyone silent, Si Boyi quickly urged, "Sister-in-law, you should eat something first! You need to take care of yourself first. Your baby will definitely be okay."
Both Si Boyi and Gu Hongwei were men and found it inconvenient to look after Tong Yao. Zheng Xiaoshuang voluntarily undertook the task of caring for Tong Yao. Tong Yao felt that it was inappropriate to always inconvenience Zheng Xiaoshuang and suggested bringing in a caretaker.
However, Zheng Xiaoshuang insisted, "Sister Yaoyao, there isn’t much to handle at the shop for now. Let me take care of you at the hospital for a couple of days! Please don’t look for a caretaker, I may not be professional but I can manage."
Having heard Zheng Xiaoshuang’s insistence, Tong Yao decided not to refuse her. Thinking about how her parents were due to arrive soon, she decided to inconvenience Zheng Xiaoshuang for a couple of days. Zheng Xiaoshuang was still her employee this month, she could just give Zheng Xiaoshuang a higher salary for her extra troubles when she leaves.
Although Tong Yao was feeling quite hungry initially, after eating some plain porridge, she couldn’t eat anything. She didn’t feel hungry anymore and her mind had cleared up quite a bit.
After a moment’s thought, she said to Zheng Xiaoshuang, "Xiaoshuang, could you help me find a nurse named Guo Nan?"
For sure, Guo Nan would know the condition of the baby as she was a nurse. Calling her over would easily answer her question.
At the mention of this, Zheng Xiaoshuang immediately went to find Guo Nan. About twenty minutes later, Guo Nan arrived at Tong Yao’s ward. On seeing Tong Yao lying on the ward bed, she was extremely surprised, "Tong Yao, didn’t you still have a month left before your due date? How come you’ve given birth already? I heard of a pregnant woman whose water broke yesterday. Was that you?"
Tong Yao nodded, "That was me."
Worried about her child, she didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly, "Guo Nan, I called you here to ask about the baby’s condition. The head of the gynecology department said my daughter isn’t in a good condition and I’m quite worried..."
"Wait a minute." Guo Nan interrupted Tong Yao, confused, "Didn’t you have a son?"
This time without waiting for Tong Yao to speak, Zheng Xiaoshuang explained, "Sister Yaoyao had twins, a boy and a girl. The head of the gynecology department said the boy was in good condition but the girl wasn’t."
Hearing this, Guo Nan’s expression became quite strange, causing Tong Yao’s heart to skip a beat, "Did something happen?"
Telling it as it is, Guo Nan said, "Sister Yaoyao, I’m not going to keep you in the dark. I had just come out from the baby room before this and there was only a male baby in there. He was in a quite good condition and I was wondering why he hadn’t been given to his parents yet. There was no female baby at all. Nowadays most women choose to give birth at home, and not many women come to the hospital to give birth in a week."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao’s face instantly turned pale. She struggled to get up and go check the baby room herself but was stopped by both Zheng Xiaoshuang and Guo Nan.
Guo Nan anxiously said, "Yaoyao, don’t move around. You’ve just given birth not long ago. You can’t do any vigorous movements."
Zheng Xiaoshuang also said, "Exactly, Sister Yaoyao, if there’s anything you want to do, just command us to do it."
How could Tong Yao stay calm?
The child she had given birth to with great difficulty was missing from the baby room. Where could the child be?
"Guo Nan, besides being in the baby room, where else could the child be?"
Gu Hongwei and Si Boyi both had unnatural expressions on their faces, staring at Guo Nan awaiting an answer. Guo Nan felt immense pressure and said, "Normally, they’re supposed to be there! I didn’t hear about any children in the Intensive Care Unit, but there could be. I just started my shift and I haven’t had the handover yet. Yaoyao, don’t worry, I’ll go and ask for you!"
A child can’t just get lost in a hospital, right?
Even child traffickers wouldn’t steal a baby from here. And even if they wanted to steal a baby, they would steal a boy. There are a lot of people these days who prefer boys over girls and no one would steal a girl.
Gu Hongwei quickly said, "Yaoyao, lie down for now, don’t move. I’ll go with her to check."
Si Boyi also said, "I’ll go too."
A perfectly healthy child, how could she go missing?
This is too strange.
Tong Yao knew that she was still very weak and going now would only add to the chaos. She forced herself to remain calm. "Then you guys should hurry up!" She hoped this was just a false alarm.
The three quickly rushed to the Intensive Care Unit. Guo Nan asked around but found out that there were no children in the Intensive Care Unit. Realising the severity of the situation, her heart pounded in fear.
Si Boyi almost went berserk, angrily asking, "Then where did my niece go?"
Stung by his words, Guo Nan shook her head, "I don’t know. Let’s go check the baby room again!"
They checked the baby room once more but there was still only one baby. Si Boyi looked furious, his eyes turned scarlet red, which was quite terrifying.
Looking at the sleeping baby, Gu Hongwei asked, "In this condition, can we directly take him to Yaoyao?"
Guo Nan checked the paper by the side of the baby’s bed and it confirmed that the baby was indeed Tong Yao’s. It was clearly written that the baby had no issues. She nodded and said, "According to the paper, there isn’t any problem and the baby looks fine. However, for the specific details, we have to ask the doctor."
She couldn’t bear the responsibility if something did happen.
Gu Hongwei had already sensed something strange. He knew Si Boyi had experience in holding babies, so he instructed, "Boyi, you take the baby to Yaoyao first. Guo Nan and I will go find the head of the gynecology department." 𝒏𝙤𝙫𝒑𝙪𝙗.𝙘𝒐𝙢
Gu Hongwei had a gut feeling that the problem could lie with the head of the gynecology department. She mentioned that the child’s condition wasn’t good, however, the baby now seemed to be in good condition.
As for giving the child to Tong Yao, firstly he was worried that this baby would also mysteriously go missing, and secondly having one child by her side would help calm Tong Yao’s nerves.
