Chapter 646: Chapter 646: Gu Hongwei Gets Angry

Although Si Boyi was anxious, he obeyed Gu Hongwei’s instructions and handed the baby over to Tong Yao first.

Without delay, Gu Hongwei quickly followed Guo Nan to the Director’s office of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. The Director was on the phone. Seeing that Gu Hongwei barged in without even knocking, her expression immediately darkened with annoyance.

"Who are you? Have you no manners? Can’t you knock before entering?" she said indignantly.

Guo Nan hurriedly squeezed in to explain, "Director, he’s a relative of Tong Yao. Our issue is, Tong Yao’s daughter is missing. She’s not in the nursery, not in the ICU. We’ve searched everywhere and still can’t find the baby. Could she have been stolen?"

Upon hearing that they were looking for a baby, the Director paused, then frowned and said, "Didn’t I already tell you earlier? The baby is in a very critical condition..."

Gu Hongwei interrupted her, "What I need to know is where the baby is now."

The Director glared at Gu Hongwei, very displeased. "Have you no manners? Can’t you let me finish my words?"

Hearing this, Gu Hongwei remained silent. The Director continued haughtily, "That baby was in a dangerous condition. I was very clear about that this morning. In fact, the baby’s situation was even more severe than I had described, but I didn’t want to upset the new mother. After I left the ward, the baby was gone, disposed of."

"What do you mean by ’gone’? Gu Hongwei, usually known for his good temper, now had a very grim expression on his face.

Guo Nan also looked unpleasant, her eyes suspiciously looking at the Director. The Director’s words seemed particularly outrageous to her.

The baby is gone, and the patient’s family wasn’t notified. Instead, it was handled privately?

What kind of logic is that?

"By ’gone,’ I mean the baby died. Do I need to spell it out for you?" the Director uttered impatiently, "Fortunately, the boy survived. It’s a stroke of luck from this unfortunate situation. If you want a daughter, you can try for another one later. If there’s nothing else, please leave. I have other matters to attend to."

The Director impatiently began to drive Gu Hongwei out. But instead of leaving, he stormed forward and grabbed her by the collar.

"Where did you throw the baby?"

The Director was startled, as no one had ever treated her like this. She anxiously called to Guo Nan for help, but Guo Nan just stood there unmoving. The situation was too outrageous, even for her. What’s to be expected from a relative of the patient?

"Where did you lose the baby?" Gu Hongwei demanded again. Typically a calm person, his anger could not be contained any longer, as he fiercely questioned her.

The Director was so scared that she turned pale and lost her arrogant demeanor. But she has been a Director in the hospital for a long time and fallen into certain patterns of behaviour. Suddenly, she didn’t know how to adjust.

She swallowed hard and said, "I threw the baby in the trash can. It’s probably been taken out by the janitor."

Gu Hongwei didn’t believe the Director. "Did you sell the baby?" Providing little credence to her claim that the baby had died.

If the baby had really died, the hospital wouldn’t have handled it this way. This situation was full of inconsistencies.

"What are you talking nonsense about?" The Director retaliated, "A baby girl? Who would buy her?"

With one swoop, Gu Hongwei flung the Director to the floor. Guo Nan was worried that Gu Hongwei might do something rash. As she was about to step in, she heard him instructing her, "Go call the police. Tell them that a hospital doctor is trafficking children."

Guo Nan glanced at the Director, hesitated for two seconds, and then turned to run. Now only the two of them were left in the room. The Director truly feared Gu Hongwei now, worried that he might be violent towards her. She hurried to explain.

"The baby is really gone. She was born underweight and we failed to save her. To prevent the mother from becoming overly emotional from the news, we didn’t tell her. If you don’t believe me, I can take you to the body right now."

As she said this, she used a chair to help herself get up. Gu Hongwei remained silent, following behind her as she walked out. However, the moment they stepped out of the department, she started running, all the while screaming, "Help!"

Gu Hongwei didn’t chase after her. At this point, it was almost certain that the baby was missing. He was positive that the baby hadn’t been stolen. It had to do with this Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, but where she had taken the baby was unknown.

Now all they could do was wait for the police to investigate. n𝚘𝚟𝚙u𝚋.co𝚖

Knowing that Tong Yao was still waiting for news in the ward, Gu Hongwei hurried back. Just as he reached the corridor, he heard a loud baby’s cry. As he reached the door, he saw Si Boyi being expelled by Zheng Xiaoshuang.

Apparently, the baby was hungry, and Tong Yao was trying to nurse her. But being a new mother, she wasn’t very experienced, and the baby cried from hunger, unable to feed.

Seeing Gu Hongwei return without the baby, Si Boyi seemed to have guessed something. "Did you not find the baby?" he asked.

Gu Hongwei replied gravely, "The Director claimed that the baby was gone and that she disposed of her. But I believe she is lying. I’ve asked Guo Nan to call the police."

Just then, the baby’s cries in the room stopped, as she had begun to nurse. Gu Hongwei’s expression became more severe. He wasn’t sure how Tong Yao would react to the news of the baby’s disappearance.

Si Boyi clenched his fists, "I’ll go find her."

Knowing Si Boyi’s impulsive nature, Gu Hongwei worried he might do something drastic. Besides, Si Boyi’s wounds haven’t healed yet. Overexerting himself would be risky. So, Gu Hongwei grabbed him and said, "The Director is crafty. We’re unlikely to get any useful information out of her. Even if she insists the baby is gone, we won’t be able to come up with any evidence. Let’s wait till the police get here."

Si Boyi, banging his fist against the wall, instantly teared up. "My brother is overseas, and Yao returned from afar for my sake, only for this to happen. How can I face my brother?"

Gu Hongwei, despite his anxiety, could only console Si Boyi first. "Don’t worry. The baby is safe. The Director must know where the baby is; we just have to wait for the police to get her to talk."

Feeling a bit more settled, Si Boyi asked, "Should we tell Yao about the baby’s situation?"

He didn’t know whether or not to tell her. If they didn’t tell her, Tong Yao would worry. But if they did tell her, they worried she wouldn’t be able to handle the shock.

He was already at his limit, extremely anxious. How would Tong Yao bear this?

He didn’t understand. How could a child just disappear in a hospital?

After hesitating for two seconds, Gu Hongwei replied seriously, "We should tell her. Yao is smart; we can’t hide this from her. If we keep quiet, she’ll make wild guesses and become even more worried. I believe the child is safe at the moment, only hidden by the Director."
