Chapter 681: Chapter 681: Introduction to Objects
Sister Zheng chuckled at the mention, "If you want to eat something, you can tell me in advance, and I’ll make it for you."
Guo Jinnian laughed, "Sister Zheng, I like whatever you cook. I’m not picky about my food."
Hearing this, Sister Zheng became even happier. After working for the Tong family for so many years, she knew Guo Jinnian well, and everyone was relaxed and cheerful in their conversation.
With everyone gathered around the table, Sister Zheng looked at Guo Jinnian, who had grown out her hair and was becoming more feminine, and suggested, "Miss Guo, I know a friend. Her son is two years younger than you, good-looking, decent, and currently working at the Civil Affairs Bureau. How about getting to know him?"
No one expected Sister Zheng to suggest a potential match for Guo Jinnian. All the people present were stunned and unconsciously turned their gaze toward Guo Jinnian.
Both Si Yang and Tong Yue were filled with curiosity, their big eyes blinking with speculation.
Guo Jinnian initially wanted to reject but didn’t want to disappoint Sister Zheng. She turned to Tong Yao, "So, should we meet with him?"
Tong Yao narrowed her eyes and immediately nodded, "I also think it’s a good idea to meet him. Who knows, he might be the right one!"
Guo Miaomiao was surprised. Isn’t her sister in love with Brother Hongwei?
Isn’t Sister Yaoyao aware of that? Why is she agreeing?
Guo Miaomiao suspected Tong Yao might have other intentions but held back her questions.
Upon hearing Guo Jinnian’s consent, Sister Zheng beamed, "Great, then let’s decide on this! The boy’s parents work in a bank, have good jobs. I will talk to them this afternoon and fix a time for you to meet."
Guo Jinnian worried, "Sister Zheng, have you discussed with his parents that I’m two years older than him? I hope they won’t say I’m a cougar?"
She didn’t want them to find out during their meeting that she was two years older, who knows they might label her as an old maid?
"It’s said ’a woman three years older brings golden luck’. A one- or two-year gap is no big deal. Don’t worry, boys don’t mind," Sister Zheng said.
Guo Jinnian nodded, "Okay, then please discuss it with them! When the time comes, I’ll take Yaoyao with me."
Sister Zheng immediately agreed and couldn’t stop beaming. Wen Yun and Tong Yaohui looked curiously at Guo Jinnian’s agreement to go on a blind date. Only Si Chen seemed to understand something and remained calm.
After dinner, Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun took the kids to school. Si Chen went to the hospital. Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian went out to shop, planning to buy gifts for Han Enzhen’s full moon banquet the following day.
On the way, Tong Yao and Guo Jinnian discussed the blind date, "Wenwen is also going for blind dates these days. You cousins are doing it together."
Guo Jinnian was surprised, "How old is Wenwen? She is starting with blind dates now. Didn’t she say she wanted to find someone she loved?"
"Probably out of family pressure! Like you, she also didn’t want to decline and wanted to save face for the matchmaker," Tong Yao laughed.
Guo Jinnian snorted, "I wonder how Hongwei will react after hearing that I’m going for blind dates. Will he feel threatened?"
Over the years, although Guo Jinnian had not explicitly expressed her feelings to Gu Hongwei, she had not interacted with other boys either, clearly indicating her heart was set on him, a fact that Gu Hongwei was well aware of.
Now that she suddenly decided to go for a blind date, will Gu Hongwei feel threatened?
Tong Yao blinked, "That’s exactly what I was thinking. Maybe it can stir him up a bit. That’s why I agreed to your blind date. If a donkey doesn’t pull the mill, I have to give it a whip."
Guo Jinnian laughed heartily at Tong Yao’s analogy. She thought the comparison was apt. Gu Hongwei was somewhat slow. They were both in their thirties, their careers were stable. Shouldn’t they hurry up with marriage?
Yet, Gu Hongwei showed no hint of it. Did he not like her?
Thinking about it, Guo Jinnian became somewhat depressed. She was truly worried that all this might be her one-sided affection.
But Guo Jinnian wasn’t willing to give up just yet. She didn’t fully believe it was just her one-sided affection. Gu Hongwei’s attitude towards her was indeed different from others. If it were indeed all in her head, Tong Yao would have advised her to let go by now.
Never mind! She didn’t dwell on the things she didn’t understand.
She shifted the topic, "Yaoyao, let’s go buy some clothes first! There will be many important people attending the event tomorrow. We should also dress up to look bright and beautiful."
Looking beautiful and appropriately dressed at times isn’t vanity, but a sign of respect for the host.
It’s a joyous occasion, after all. Dressing up a bit makes everyone happy.
Tong Yao nodded, "I know a shop with really good clothes. Let’s see if we like anything from their collection. Achun brought me there previously. It’s an old, reputable shop and they have always had tasteful clothing."
Mentioning Wang Chun, Tong Yao realized she hadn’t seen her for a long time. Lately, Wang Chun’s mother wasn’t too well and was receiving treatment abroad, which is why she could not return. She had already notified Han Enzhen over the phone.
In the past five years, Wang Chun’s mental state greatly improved; she became more active, even opened an art studio with over twenty students.
Since Wang Chun loved painting and didn’t intend to rely on it for income, she temporarily closed her studio when her mother fell sick.
"Do you think I should buy a dress to wear? Would it look strange if I wore a dress?"
Guo Jinnian noticed a passerby wearing a dress, and felt a little itch. She wondered if the reason Gu Hongwei hadn’t confessed his feelings was that he found her too boyish. She pondered buying a dress to wear.
Tong Yao nodded, "I think it’s fine. Buy some to wear. When you go on the blind date, you can dress up a bit. Although you’re just going to save face for Zheng, a girl should always dress up when going out."
Hearing Tong Yao’s words, Guo Jinnian was all excited, eager to get a couple of dresses, wear them in front of Gu Hongwei, and let him see her feminine side.
She eagerly grabbed Tong Yao’s arm and walked towards the shop, "Yaoyao, you help me select a couple. I also think I should make some changes. At my age, a woman should be a bit more feminine."
The two strolled along and soon arrived at the shop Tong Yao had mentioned. Two young girls were browsing inside, and the enthusiastic shop owner was helping them pick clothes. Seeing Tong Yao enter, the shop owner’s eyes lit up and she promptly greeted them.
"Miss Tong, you’re here? We have heaps of new designs in store. Quickly come and see if there’s anything you like?"
The shop owner didn’t know Tong Yao’s social standing. She only knew her surname was Tong and that she always bought clothes without bargaining or nitpicking.
Almost always, eight out of ten times, whenever Tong Yao visited, she would buy clothes.
Such customers were rare, so the owner was excited to see her.
