Chapter 34: 34:Devour Up
CLANG!
A sharp crisp sound resonated as the sword struck against the safe.
The old man’s hands trembled, his body swaying slightly as he took a cautious step back.
His face was worn, lined with age and exhaustion, but his grip on the sword was firm.
Kael grinned, tilting his head.
"So, you were the secret protector," he mused. "Kinda disappointing. Thought you’d be sharper than this."
The old man ignored him, raising his sword. "Put that down and fight me like a man!" he barked.
Kael let out a mocking chuckle. "Why? What’s in here that you’re so desperate to protect?" His tone was light, teasing, but his eyes held a glint of madness.
The old man didn’t wait for an answer. He lunged.
CLANG!
The sword scraped against the metallic safe Kael was holding, sending sparks flying. The old man’s eyes widened before he quickly stepped back.
"If you’re a man, fight me properly! Show some chivalry!" he demanded.
Kael snorted. "If I don’t fight you with a sword, will my dick and balls suddenly fall off?"
"Or will it become a hole?"
Kael shrugged off with a maddening laughter, "What are you, a god? You decide what makes a man?"
"You...!" The old man’s face turned red with anger.
"I’ll kill you!" he roared, swinging his sword with full force.
Kael jumped back, throwing the vault straight at the old man’s chest. The man’s expression shifted, and instead of deflecting, he caught it, placing it carefully on the ground.
That was a mistake.
The moment his hands left his sword, Kael attacked. His blade shot forward like a viper, forcing the old man to deflect at the last second. Sparks danced as metal clashed. The old man swung wide, aiming for Kael’s ribs, but Kael ducked under and slashed at his legs.
The old man leaped back, adjusting his stance. His movements were steady, and precise. Experience radiated from him, but Kael didn’t give a damn. He grinned like a lunatic, eyes flashing with excitement.
"Not bad for an old fossil," Kael taunted. "But are you sure your bones can keep up?"
"Does it have enough to handle the shockwaves of the younger generation when you seem to have one leg in the coffin?"
The old man didn’t reply. He suddenly burst forward, his blade coated in a faint, glowing aura. His strikes became faster, sharper, slicing through the air like a storm. Kael barely dodged, twisting his body as a chair shattered behind him. He flipped onto the table, then jumped off the edge as the old man’s sword cleaved it in two.
Kael grabbed a chair and flung it. The old man sliced through it in one clean motion.
"Good reflexes!" Kael laughed. "Let’s see how you handle this!"
He snatched a thick book off a nearby shelf and hurled it.
"Takt this.."
"Take this."
"Take that and even that...Hahah!"
Paper started flying around covering his vision and making him scream.
"FUCKKKKK!"
The old man slashed through the pages, but before the shredded paper even settled, another book came flying from behind
SMACK!
The hardcover slammed into his face, making his head spin.
"Oops!" Kael cackled. "That one looked like it hurt!" 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝒸ℴ𝓶
As the old man staggered, Kael didn’t waste the moment. His sword flashed, piercing straight through the man’s chest.
The old man gritted his teeth, his hands trembling as he grabbed the blade. Blood dripped down his fingers. With the last of his strength, he thrust his sword forward.
Kael saw it coming.
He smirked, letting go of his weapon, and jumped back.
In the mid air he twisted his body and sent a brutal kick straight into the old man’s torso. The impact sent him crashing into a bookshelf, knocking it over.
Kael landed gracefully, rolling his shoulders. "You thought I’d stand there and let you stab me? What am I, an idiot?" He clicked his tongue.
The old man coughed, blood pooling around him. His body twitched, then fell still.
Kael let out a dramatic sigh. "Man, old folks these days. Always so stubborn." He cracked his neck, then grinned.
"Don’t give me that look. Chivalry, I respect it but it doesn’t matter."
"Winning is my sole priority..."saying this Kael cracked his knuckles with an evil smile.
"Well, time to see what stats you were hiding in..kekk!"
Kael bent down and placed his hands on the man’s chest, using his talent.
"I hope I get a good boost."
[Devour]
A suction force emerged that started sucking the life of the old man. Kael didn’t stop but let it in as the old man’s face and body dried up like a swirling mass of decaying flesh rotting away leaving the dried husk of his body.
Kael’s expression turned from shock to delight.
"4 Constitution, 2 agility...Combined with the previous ones..."Kael paused and looked at his stats after devouring the 6 guards and this man.
