Chapter 35: 35:Chaos At Midnight
"Sadly, I didn’t get any vitality but with this, my rank directly jumped to mid E. That’s pretty good but it’s just physical power."
Having a stat between 10-15 gives you an assessment of E-rank and 15-20 E-rank.
The system assessment is based on the overall effect of stats along with the talents and skills that can be exerted through the stats.
"Alas, the mana is still locked, however at least I should have a score less than zero.."Kael shook his head.
Generally, using mana, one can increase strength and agility by almost 10-20%. That’s why mana is the main vital aspect of an awakener.
The only reason he could take such a risk was because he was experienced in knowing strong swordsmanship with an ample amount of experience.
"Also, my talents have also been upgraded E swiftly. As for swordsmanship, for it to be upgraded I need to practice E rank swordsmanship..."
"That’s easy...
"With the E rank, I can finally exert some deadly combination and take that fatty sick ass City Lord.."
......
Back in the orphanage, Chris looked at the two men fighting one another with glittery eyes.
"When will he come?" 𝔫𝖔𝖛𝖕𝔲𝔟.𝔠𝖔𝖒
"Has he not finished the thing he went for?"Chris asked curiously, causing Baret to lower his sword and look at Gare.
"Don’t look at me. I don’t know anything. Who knows what he is cooking?"
Baret crunched his brows and raised out a sweat towel and wiped his face.
Then he lowered it and opened his lips.
"Ga..."His voice cut off when his senses of danger
He shot his hand like a whip and grabbed Gare who walked past beside him and threw him away.
"Wh-CRAAAAAANG!"
Gare’s voice was wiped off by a loud metallic clash, as with a loud roaring sound a man burst out through the gates and attacked Baret.
Baret raised his sword to deflect but the force pushed him back, dragging onto the ground.
Shooting back,he slammed into Gare.
Chris opened his lips wide to shut who are you but at the last moment, he managed to control himself and jumped off to hide.
As Baret got up, he sensed a strong murderous intent and looked up to see a familiar fatty man who screamed.
"You...Killed my son...I will kill you!"
With that roar, he shot at Baret who squealed in panic and defended while looking at Gare in questioning gaze.
TANG!TANG!TANG!
The sound of swords clashing erupted, shaking away the silence of the night.Lamps started to lit up one after another, and people were awakened by the loud noise.
Baret and Gare deflected and dodged the attack in the orphanage yard, their swords raised as they faced the enraged Loreno.
The man fought like a mad beast, his attacks wild but powerful, each strike sending shockwaves through the air. His sword clashed against Baret’s, sparks flying as metal scraped against metal.
"You killed my son!" Loreno screamed, his bloodshot eyes filled with madness. His swings were reckless but brutal, forcing Baret to retreat step by step.
Baret gritted his teeth, his muscles straining as he blocked another strike. "Gare!" he shouted, his voice edged with frustration.
"Yeah, yeah, I am in!" Gare muttered, stepping in to deflect an incoming blow. His sword clanged against Loreno’s, pushing him back slightly.
"Damn, he’s really pissed! What the hell did you do, Baret?"
Baret didn’t answer, too focused on keeping his balance.
Meanwhile, Loreno was breathing heavily and heard the sound of steps from behind.
"Guards! Drag them down!" Loreno bellowed.
Swish! Swish!
Six guards rushed in, surrounding them in a tight formation. Baret cursed under his breath, adjusting his grip. Two of the guards lunged at him. He dodged swiftly, then countered with a clean slash, forcing them back.
Gare spun around, his blade flashing as he parried another strike. "For the record, we didn’t kill his son! Lord only ordered us to rough him up a bit. We didn’t even cut his real finger! We just stuck his ring on some poor bastard’s hand!"
Baret’s eyes twitched. "Then why the hell is he after us like this?" He sidestepped a guard’s attack and slashed him across the chest, sending him crashing to the ground.
Loreno’s face twisted in fury. "Lies! My son is dead!" His aura exploded, shaking the very air. The ground cracked beneath his feet as he rushed forward, his sword glowing with raw energy.
Gare barely had time to react before a powerful strike sent him flying, his body smashing through a wooden wall. Dust and debris filled the room as the orphanage walls trembled.
Baret turned just in time to see Loreno’s sword coming straight at him. He raised his weapon in defense, but the impact was so strong that his blade cracked. The sheer force pushed him back, his feet scraping against the ground as he struggled to stay upright.
The noise woke the children in the orphanage. Small faces peeked from behind the doors, their eyes wide with fear. The air was thick with tension, the once-quiet home now a battlefield.
Gare groaned, pushing himself up from the rubble. "Damn it... Alright, old man, let’s talk this out!" He spat out dust, shaking his head. "We didn’t kill your son! Someone else must have!"
"Shut up!" Loreno roared, his sword raised high.
"What the...Why are calling him an old man and talking like a Young Master?"Barry shouted, making Gare freeze who took a moment to assess his bearing and shouted.
"City Lord, Loreno believes us. We are innocent. We have no hands in your son’s death."
"So, let’s talk..."
"FUKKK OFFF!"
"I will talk to your corpses, bloody bastard."
Baret exhaled sharply, gripping his damaged weapon. This was getting worse by the second.
......
While the chaos erupted at midnight.
Far away, on the roof of an old thatched house, a shadowy figure rose from the darkness who observed the battle leisurely.
A low chuckle escaped his lips as he watched the chaos unfold.
"I didn’t think it would be that easy." His voice carried a hint of amusement as he leaned forward, his cloak fluttering in the wind.
"I don’t think this is enough to get him killed, not with those secret guards lurking around," he mused, his eyes glinting with satisfaction. "But at least it’ll make a big mess... Still, I hope this destroys your reputation and at least injures you."
"If not for the secret guards, I would have already ripped out your head."
