Looking at his own body, wrapped in bandages and with his arm in a cast, Lin Tian activated his clairvoyance ability to check his condition.
"Hiss…"
Seeing the state of his chest, even Lin Tian couldn’t help but inhale sharply with shock. He hadn’t anticipated his injuries to be so severe. Over half of his ribs were broken, and his internal organs were damaged to varying degrees.
Surviving such injuries was nothing short of a miracle, for an ordinary person would likely have died.
"You are finally awake." Just then, the door of the room opened, and a nurse walked in. She looked at Lin Tian and said.
"Um… Where is this?" Lin Tian took a deep breath, felt a pang of pain in his body, and then looked at the nurse and asked.
"This is the Special District Sanatorium. How are you feeling now?" replied the nurse.
"Special District Sanatorium?" Lin Tian looked confused upon hearing this, he had never heard of this place before. "Why am I here?"
"Hmm… The Dragon Emperor brought you here," the nurse responded patiently, answering whatever he asked.
"Dragon Emperor? Who is the Dragon Emperor?" Lin Tian was even more puzzled now; he had absolutely no idea who the Dragon Emperor was.
"You don’t know the Dragon Emperor?" Seeing Lin Tian’s expression, the nurse also looked puzzled and said, "That’s odd, how would the Dragon Emperor bring you here if you don’t know him? I thought you were a member of Nidhogg."
"Nidhogg?" Lin Tian felt utterly confused now, what was all this about? One moment it was the Sanatorium, next the Dragon Emperor, and now Nidhogg; he had never even heard of these things.
"Are you awake?" Just as Lin Tian was bewildered, another person walked into the room. This was a middle-aged man dressed in camo, sturdy in build, with eyes as sharp as an eagle, looking quite extraordinary.
"Did you save me?" Looking at the newcomer, Lin Tian thought of the figure he saw before he passed out, who was remarkably similar to the person in front of him, so he asked.
"Yes, I did," the middle-aged man nodded and said.
"Who are you? Why did you save me?" Seeing the man acknowledge it, Lin Tian didn’t feel grateful but was instead very wary. He couldn’t remember ever meeting such a man, and he was suspicious of the reasons behind the help of a stranger. If the man were an ordinary person, it might have been out of kindness.
But the person in front of him didn’t look ordinary at all, and his appearance was too bizarre. This was no ordinary hospital, and the nurse was speaking gibberish; clearly, none of this was normal!
"Heh… there’s no need for such wariness. If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn’t have brought you back here. I would’ve just done it on the outskirts of Capital City," the middle-aged man chuckled lightly as he saw Lin Tian’s guarded look.
"Alright then, could you tell me who you are and why you saved me?" Lin Tian, feeling reassured by the man’s logic, dropped his guard and repeated his earlier questions.
"I am Dragon Emperor," the middle-aged man began, then he waved his hand to dismiss the nurse. Once she was gone, he continued, "As for why I saved you, I will explain everything."
"Go ahead, just the key points." Watching Dragon Emperor’s expression turn serious, Lin Tian became uneasy; the atmosphere felt like something from a novel or TV show where warriors prepare for a daunting mission. Damn, it was so unnerving.
"Now you have two choices. First, now that you are awake, I can transfer you to a regular hospital and after you recover, you can leave on your own. Second…"
"I choose the first one." Before Dragon Emperor could finish outlining the second option, Lin Tian had already made his choice.
"I haven’t finished talking about the second option yet. Are you sure you want to pick the first one?" Dragon Emperor looked at Lin Tian, speechless.
"Sure, since I can leave safely, I desire nothing more. Staying alive is what truly matters." Lin Tian smiled and said. He never believed in pie falling from the sky; the moment he heard he could leave, Lin Tian unwaveringly chose the first option, and what the second option entailed was more than unnecessary to know.
He had a healing potion, and once he left this place, he would recover completely.
"Are you sure you don’t want to hear the second option?" Dragon Emperor asked again, seeing Lin Tian’s resolved demeanor.
"Yes," Lin Tian looked at Dragon Emperor, his face expressing frustration, Good god, I’ve made myself clear already, why continue asking, his stance was firm and would definitely not change.
"What if I told you that the second option could give you a status that would concern the Li Family, would you still choose the first?" Dragon Emperor sounded like a seasoned scammer now, tempting Lin Tian.
"How do you know about my conflict with the Li Family?" Hearing Dragon Emperor mention the Li Family, Lin Tian’s face tensed with caution again.
"Heh… You know this place is called Special District Sanatorium, don’t you?" Dragon Emperor looked at Lin Tian and chuckled lightly.
"The nurse just told me, but how does that relate to you knowing about my issues with the Li Family?" Lin Tian said, still full of suspicion.
"What if I tell you that this sanatorium is only present within the military, would you understand now?" Dragon Emperor added.
"Are you saying this place belongs to Huaxia’s military region?" Lin Tian asked in shock.
"Yes, this is Huaxia’s military region. Now do you need to ask how I know about your conflict with the Li Family?" Dragon Emperor looked at Lin Tian with a teasing glance.
"No need, no need…" Hearing that the place he was in belonged to the Huaxia military region, Lin Tian suddenly couldn’t remain calm, and he was no longer so concerned about Dragon Emperor knowing about his conflict with the Li Family.
"Gulp…" Regaining his composure, Lin Tian swallowed and said, "Surely my conflict with the Li Family isn’t so significant as to stir the state into action, right?"
"…" Dragon Emperor. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂
Hearing Lin Tian speak so, even Dragon Emperor, accustomed to maintaining his composure in various situations, couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of his mouth. Fucking hell, you really dare to assume it requires the state’s intervention just for a quarrel with the Li Family? Do you really think you are the protagonist of this world?
"You’re overthinking it," Dragon Emperor rolled his eyes and said.
"Then why are you guys interested in me? Surely it’s not because you think I have a rare talent, the pillar of the country’s future, the hope of the nation, ready to be nurtured, right?" Lin Tian joked.
"Although not as exaggerated as you said, it’s somewhat true," Dragon Emperor surprisingly agreed with what Lin Tian said and nodded.
"Fucking hell… Is that really true?" Lin Tian looked at Dragon Emperor nodding and cried out in shock.
