Chapter 227: Kairos Gets on the Arena
"Leader’s new woman?" Kairos and the others said in surprise.
Not only them, but Ren was also startled because he didn’t expect her to introduce herself as her new girlfriend.
"Ops! I misspoke." Althea covered her mouth, and her eyes widened with fake shock. "I’m not his lover, but the mother of his new girlfriend."
"The mother of leader’s new girlfriend?" Elian and the others were shocked again.
At this moment, Ren was not surprised.
He was speechless, causing the corner of his lips to twitch.
"Leader, who is your new woman?"
"Is she someone we know?"
"Leader, is she from the Veneian Kingdom?"
"Leader, when did you meet her?"
"Leader, tell us about your new lover. We are curious about her."
They immediately bombarded him with countless questions because they thought she was serious.
"Hehe." Althea could not help but giggle when she saw their reactions.
’I didn’t think they would believe me so easily.’
She said in her mind.
Ren let out a sigh before finally speaking, "I don’t have a new girlfriend. She is messing with you. Can’t you tell by the way she is acting?"
His underlings instantly shifted their gaze to Althea.
’She is lying?’
They only realized they had been played when they saw her giggling softly.
"Alright. Get inside now." Ren uttered.
They listened to his order and entered the fort, followed by him and Althea from behind.
"Were you disappointed when I said I was not your lover?" she asked in a low voice.
"Yes. I think my day has been ruined by now." He joked around. "Sigh. Today will be a hard day for me."
"Hehe." She giggled softly.
After they entered the fort, Commander Raiden escorted Ren’s underlings to their quarters.
"Ren!" Zaria’s face lit up with a smile as she approached him. "What are you doing up on the fort’s wall?"
"I just welcomed my subordinates." He responded,
"I see." She was not surprised because her mother had told her about this before. "Have you had breakfast?"
"No, I haven’t." He had gone straight to the fort’s wall after waking up, so he had not eaten anything yet.
"Then, how about...we eat breakfast together?" Her voice grew softer with each word because shyness washed over her.
"Sure." He agreed instantly.
Happiness radiated through her. "Then, let’s head to the dining room."
"Un." He nodded.
Shortly after that, they reached the dining room.
The duo was alone because no one was there.
As they were chatting happily, Althea made her way over.
’Hmm?’
She stopped her footsteps and hid behind the wall when she saw them eating together happily.
’My daughter looks so happy.’
Her lips curled up into a smile as she peeked at them.
’Well, I suppose I will let them enjoy their breakfast in peace.’
When she was heading toward her chamber, Commander Charles’ voice echoed in the entire area.
"Veneian Kingdom, we challenge you to a duel! Do you dare accept our challenge again, or have you become a coward after yesterday’s loss?" Commander Charles slipped provocation into his words because it would increase the chances of them accepting the challenge.
All soldiers stopped what they were doing and gathered in front of their fort.
"We accept your challenge!"
"Great timing! Time to make up for yesterday’s loss."
"I’ve been waiting for this since yesterday!"
"Hey, Tuiziya Kingdom! Don’t get cocky just because you won yesterday’s duel. You were just lucky!"
"Damn, right! Today, we will show you our real strength!"
The people of the Veneian Kingdom accepted the duel right away because they were eager to make up for their loss yesterday.
Zaria stopped eating and squeezed her fork.
’Why are you challenging us now? Can’t you let us have our breakfast in peace first?’
She was furious, but she said nothing.
"Zaria, let’s head out and join the others." Even though he still wanted to sit and eat with her, he decided to stop because it was more important than breakfast.
"Alright." She rose from her seat and walked out of the dining room with him.
"Leader..."
"Leader..."
"Leader..."
Ren’s underlings stood beside the soldiers with happy faces because this was exactly why they joined the mission.
"Leader, can you ask Commander Raiden to let us join the duel?" Kairos went straight to the point.
"We promise we won’t lose, leader." Rail added.
"Wait here." Ren didn’t look for Commander Raiden since the highest authority now rested with Althea.
’There she is!’
He saw Althea standing next to General Lara.
"Althea, can you let my subordinates join the duel?" he asked in a low voice.
"Didn’t your subordinates just arrive? Are you sure you want them joining the duel?" Althea was a little surprised because his subordinates had only arrived at the fort an hour ago.
"It’s their request." He responded,
"Sure. But only five people." Althea limited the number because it was a fight between her kingdom and the Tuiziya Kingdom. "Just inform Commander Raiden about this."
"Thank you." After saying that, he headed to Commander Raiden.
Commander Raiden agreed instantly because Althea had already given her approval.
A brown-haired man from the Tuiziya Kingdom jumped into the area. "I’m Kaelen. If any of you actually think you stand a chance, come here and fight me."
A blue-haired man named Auron accepted the challenge and leaped into the area. "I will face you!"
"I hope you can entertain me!" Kaelen retrieved his daggers from his space ring and rushed toward Auron.
"Tch! Acting arrogant again!" Auron took out his sword and faced Kaelen.
The fight between Auron and Kaelen only lasted for five minutes.
Even though they were of the same rank, Kaelen was faster and stronger than Auron, so Auron lost miserably in no time.
Bang!
Auron was slammed onto the arena floor, then hurled out of the ring and crashed to the ground.
"Cough...Cough..." Auron coughed up blood when he tried to stand up.
’Damn it!’
He was furious with himself for bringing humiliation to the Veneian Kingdom.
"Haha! Well done, Kaelen!"
"It seems like you are going to lose the duel again today! Haha."
"So weak! He could not even last ten minutes!"
"Hey, Commander Raiden! Are all your subordinates this pathetic? Haha!"
They mocked the people of the Veneian Kingdom right after Kaelen’s win because their fighter had won too easily.
"So weak!" Kaelen smirked, then turned around and leapt out of the arena, returning to Tuiziya’s side.
"Healing mage, go treat Auron’s injuries." Despite feeling angry, Commander Raiden kept his composure because the duel was far from over.
"Commander Raiden, can you let my underling be the next fighter?" Ren asked.
"...alright." It took Commander Raiden three seconds to answer his question. "But make sure your subordinate wins the fight."
They had just lost the battle, so it would be so humiliating if they lost again because it would look like their kingdom was inferior than the Tuiziya Kingdom.
Ren nodded before finally turning to Kairos. "Kairos, get to the arena. Make sure you win the fight."
Kairos’ eyes lit up. "I won’t let you down, leader."
He was pleased to be chosen as the next fighter, so he jumped into the arena with a happy smile on his face.
"I’m Kairos from the Moon Organization. Come to the ring and face me." Kairos made sure to introduce his organization because their goal was to make it the most powerful and famous on the Vlizica continent.
"Moon Organization?"
"Damn! That’s the group that had the nerve to take five cities from our kingdom!"
"Isn’t the leader of that organization a wanted man under His Majesty’s decree?"
"So, he’s that bastard’s underling?"
"Why is he fighting for the Veneian Kingdom?"
"You piece of shit! Where is your leader? Tell him to come out! I want to kill him!"
Even though they were constantly stationed at the border, they still received the latest news from Tuiziya Kingdom, so they knew what Ren had done to their kingdom.
"It seems like you are really popular in the Tuiziya Kingdom." Althea said with a teasing smile.
"I guess that’s the price of being a bit too... adventurous," Ren said with a playful grin.
"Hehe." Althea giggled.
"Stop speaking ill of my leader or my organization!" Kairos said angrily. "Get on the arena and fight me if you are furious at us!"
"Good! Then, I will fight you!" a blue-haired man named Renan jumped into the arena and took out his spear.
"I will make you pay the price for insulting my leader." Flame energy enveloped the arrow when Kairos pulled back the string.
As he released the string, the arrow shot forward with a sharp whoosh.
However, his attack failed to injure Renan as he easily destroyed the arrow, swinging his spear forward and shattering it with the tip of his spear.
Without hesitation, Renan launched his counterattack.
The fight between them was fierce and relentless. Each one of them launched their skills one after another.
Renan wanted to defeat Kairos because the Moon Organization had dared to cause trouble for King Aldric, while Kairos was determined to take him down for insulting his leader and organization.
They fought with everything they had as if their lives depended on the outcome of the battle.
"I will end it here!" Kairos shot two arrows at once.
One of the arrows turned into a flaming bird, while the other became a blazing flame arrow.
Renan spun his spear rapidly before him, creating a spinning barrier to block the incoming arrows.
But the flaming bird suddenly changed direction and attacked his back.
Boom!
Boom!
The moment the flaming bird landed on his back, the flame arrow hit his chest, knocking Renan out in an instant.
