Chapter 257: Chapter 247: Unparalleled Meeting Gift
Pangpang showed no respect, still grumbling discontentedly.
Li Hongjun thought he was hungry again, and imitated his wife’s actions by sticking his finger near his son’s mouth, but this only made his son’s mouth open even wider.
It wasn’t hunger, observed Li Hongjun as he furrowed his brow. Could it be that the diaper hadn’t been attached properly, making his son uncomfortable?
The clueless father had no choice but to try one thing after another, so he unwrapped the diaper that had just been put on not long ago.
Nothing was wrong! 𝘯𝑜𝑣𝑝𝑢𝘣.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Li Hongjun saw the diaper was still dry and got ready to rewrap his son.
Before he could get to it, however, a stream of warm liquid came his way.
Li Hongjun stood frozen in place, letting Pangpang douse him with pee from head to toe.
Then father and son began to stare each other down.
In the end, Pangpang looked displeased, as if to say, "What are you looking at? You’re blocking my way to pee, don’t you know?"
"Wah..." Baby Pangpang cried out, feeling wronged.
After his wife, Li Hongjun was yet again made helpless by his son. Drenched in pee from his head to his face, he hadn’t even lost his temper before the baby started to cry, feeling aggrieved. What in the world was going on?
"What’s wrong?" Shen Yunfang awoke from her sleep to the sound of her son crying, and immediately woke up. But turning her head to look, she paused in confusion. Why was the baby crying, and why was Li Hongjun crying too, tears streaming down his face and head?
"Pfft..." Shen Yunfang couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Oh my goodness, it was too funny; her son was definitely a genius, giving his dad such a unique welcome gift on the first day.
Angry, Li Hongjun gave his son a pat on the little bottom and slapped his wife’s too, "Stop laughing, hurry up, don’t you see your son is still crying? Go console him. He peed all over me and I haven’t even said anything yet, but now he’s the one who’s upset. Really, I can’t tell who’s the child and who’s the father," he muttered this last sentence to himself.
Once Shen Yunfang had laughed enough, she sat up to look at her son.
Hearing Li Hongjun say the baby had pooped, she understood why her son was crying. She lifted her own legs up to check, and indeed saw little bits of poop still clinging to her son’s tiny behind. She hurriedly sent Li Hongjun off to work.
"Go get some warm water for your son outside, he needs to wash his little bottom after pooping, otherwise he’ll be uncomfortable." This was a bad habit she had indulged in, initially she just couldn’t bear to see her son so dirty. Later on, if she didn’t wash him, he would be the one who was unhappy.
"Do we wash every day? Can a child handle that with the weather being so cold?" Li Hongjun said as he got down to put on his shoes.
"It’s okay, I won’t give him a full bath, just wash his little bottom. The basin is over there, the blue little basin," Shen Yunfang said, pointing to several basins under the table.
One little blue basin was for washing their son’s bottom, one little pink basin was for his hands and face, and there was a bigger basin for giving him a bath.
Li Hongjun obediently bent down, took out the small blue basin from under the table, went out to the main room to get some warm water, and brought it back in.
The two worked together on the kang to wash the child’s little bottom.
After rewrapping the diaper, sure enough, the child stopped fussing.
Shen Yunfang used a rag to wipe dry the accidentally spilled water on the kang, then lay down again with her son in her arms.
"After you pour out the water, you should wash up too. Is there still hot water in the pot outside?" Shen Yunfang couldn’t help but want to laugh again at the sight of Li Hongjun in his sorry state.
"There is." He had just come back and hadn’t washed yet; his son sure knew the right timing, sparing him the trouble of doing it twice.
"Use that red iron basin to wash," Shen Yunfang specifically instructed, as she was now keeping the child’s things separate from the adults’—which was a rather scientific method of child-rearing for the time.
At Dashuan’s wife’s, they were poor but particular.
"Alright, I know. You stop worrying and get some more sleep," Li Hongjun told his wife to lie down, as he was a grown man and could take care of himself. Of course, he was very satisfied that his wife cared so much for him.
When Dashuan’s wife figured it was about time, she came over to Shen Yunfang’s house, only to see Li Hongjun sitting on a small stool washing the pee ring.
"Oh, put that down. Didn’t I say to leave that for me to wash when I get here? You just got back, quickly go inside and rest." It was unusual for a grown man to wash the pee ring; if others knew, it would be laughable. Dashuan’s wife hurried over, trying to shoo Li Hongjun inside.
Li Hongjun waved off Dashuan’s wife’s hand and said, "Sister-in-law, it’s okay, I’m almost done." Just like he said, with a big twist of his hand, the pee ring was already wringing out water. "Sister-in-law, thank you for these past few days; Yunfang has told me everything, that if it weren’t for you and Brother Dashuan taking care of things, Yunfang’s childbirth wouldn’t have been so smooth."
"Oh, why mention such things; we’re all neighbors. Yunfang has helped us a lot too, isn’t it what we should do?" Dashuan’s wife waved her hand unconcernedly, but found the words pleasant to hear.
"That’s settled then, my wife and I will always remember this kindness," Li Hongjun said earnestly, truly grateful for Dashuan and his wife’s help with Yunfang.
"Hehe, don’t be so polite. Just now when I went home, your Brother Dashuan heard that you’ve come back and said to invite you over for dinner tonight. He’s been looking forward to having a few good drinks with you."
"That’s very kind of him, but I’m not at ease leaving Yunfang at home. Why don’t you ask Brother Dashuan to come over here tonight instead? There’s still some good liquor at home; I’ll ask Yunfang where she put it later." Once Li Hongjun got back home, he didn’t want to go anywhere else; he just wanted to stay at home with his wife and son.
Although he still wore his stern expression, Dashuan’s wife could see he was being clingy towards his wife, and couldn’t help but laugh, "Alright then, your Brother Dashuan has been missing the good liquor here for quite a while. If he hears you’re bringing out the good stuff, he’s sure to come right over."
Li Hongjun’s old face turned red with her laughter, but being so dark-skinned, it wasn’t easily noticeable; he coughed, "Sister-in-law, I’m here to tend to things at home. You go back and rest. When it gets dark, bring over grandma and the kids too. Let’s have a good meal to welcome me home." He specifically said this out of fear that only Dashuan would come in the end.
Dashuan’s wife indeed thought the same; in the countryside, inviting over for meals usually meant just the men; rarely did the entire family come along. However, since Li Hongjun had put it that way, it would be rude not to go.
"Okay, then our whole family will come to welcome you home." Dashuan’s wife decided she couldn’t come empty-handed and started to think about what to bring. "Right, shouldn’t you invite Yunfang’s two uncles over for a meal too?"
Dashuan’s wife reminded, considering Shen Yunfang only had those two uncles nearby, and not inviting them when hosting a meal upon returning might not be very appropriate.
Li Hongjun was still dissatisfied with Shen Yunxiu’s dad for not taking good care of her, which almost caused his wife to give birth prematurely, and he also held a grudge for Shen Yunfeng writing a denunciation letter against Yunfang. However, this was something he still needed to discuss with Yunfang, as these were her kin.
