Chapter 491: Chapter 481: You hold them, I’ll beat them up
Shen Yunfang didn’t feel that this matter was over just like that; after all, wealth moves the heart. Since Mr. Yoshida had taken a liking to "Transformers," it was unlikely that he would give up so easily without encountering some major issue.
As expected, on Monday morning, while she was taking her child to school, she saw a sedan parked in the residential compound below her apartment building.
At that time, sedans were rare, and their presence could draw a crowd wherever they went.
When she saw the provocatively dressed Yoshida step out of the car, she had a feeling—finally, it had come.
Yoshida, dressed in a sharp black suit, sauntered over and obstructed Shen Yunfang’s path.
"Shen, hello, we meet again," said Yoshida in English. He had researched this woman and knew her English was quite good. To communicate smoothly with her, he had to temporarily forsake Japanese.
"Oh, it’s Mr. Yoshida, hello. Do you need something?" Shen Yunfang wasn’t surprised that Yoshida could speak English, but she was somewhat incredulous that he would wander around this land without his entourage. The man had guts; wasn’t he afraid of getting beaten up by a mob?
"Nothing much..." Yoshida ran a hand through his hair, showing what he believed to be his most handsome side to the woman opposite him.
"Since it’s nothing much, I’ll be going then. I need to take my child to school. Goodbye." Shen Yunfang didn’t look at the man opposite her, said her polite goodbyes, mounted her bicycle, and left.
Yoshida watched perplexed as the bicycle sped past him. Is she really a woman? How could she completely ignore his male charm? Surely she hadn’t looked at him properly; otherwise, she should have already been swooning at the foot of his suit pants.
After dropping her child off at the kindergarten, Shen Yunfang cycled to the Agricultural University and saw the same sedan she had seen in the morning, with Yoshida still standing beside it, posing and preening.
Shen Yunfang furrowed her brow and then headed straight into the campus without a sideways glance.
Seeing that Shen Yunfang had only given him a brief look and then treated him as if he were a stranger, pushing her bicycle straight into the school’s gate, Yoshida hurriedly followed her into the campus, hoping for a casual walk around the school.
"Hey, who are you? I don’t seem to recognize you. Are you a student at this school?" The elderly gatekeeper eyed him suspiciously; although he couldn’t remember all the students of the Agricultural University, he was certain that this slickly dressed man was not one of them. The gatekeeper quickly stepped forward to block Yoshida’s path.
Even though Yoshida could speak English, he couldn’t understand Chinese; he was disdainful of learning it, and consequently, he had no idea what the obstructive old man was saying.
"Step aside quickly; I need to follow that woman ahead," said Yoshida in Japanese, as he became flustered and inadvertently switched languages.
The gatekeeper, in his sixties and apart from writing his own name, couldn’t read much. But he recognized that the man in front was speaking Japanese; he had been part of the militia during the war against Japan.
The old gatekeeper’s eyes went red with anger instantly, "You damn Japanese, daring to come here, I’ll beat you to death!" The gatekeeper swung his arms, spotted the mop leaning against the wall of the guardroom, grabbed it, and started whacking Yoshida on the head and body. "I’ll show you, you little Japanese, how dare you swagger around, how dare you show off, you little despicable Japanese..."
"Hey, old man, what are you doing? Stop it!" Yoshida hadn’t expected the old man to strike without warning, and caught off guard, he got a solid hit from the mop.
The head of the mop, reeking of stale and sour odors, slapped Yoshida all over his face and head.
The old man only knew that the other person was speaking Japanese, but he had no idea what he was actually saying, so he swung the mop with such a ferocity that Mr. Yoshida couldn’t advance a single step.
Many people saw the fight and crowded around to watch the excitement. Shen Yunfang, who was walking in front, also heard the noise behind her. Out of curiosity, she stopped and turned to look back. Since the crowd had enclosed the area, she couldn’t see clearly. However, she had a class to attend—Mr. Cai’s class—and she dared not be late, so after glancing over a few times, she hurriedly continued on her way to the classroom.
The situation was quite pitiable for Mr. Yoshida as he was getting thrashed by the old man with a mop, surrounded by onlookers who gathered a rough idea of what was happening from the gatekeeper’s scolding and Mr. Yoshida’s jabbering. These university students, being passionate youths, still vividly remembered the eight years of aggression their country had suffered. So instead of breaking up the fight, it was a mark of their high-quality character that they didn’t join in and beat him up as well.
Seeing that no one was helping him and spewing a few unsavory words, Mr. Yoshida adjusted himself and grabbed at the incoming mop, ready to save himself.
"Hey, what are you trying to do? That’s an old man, do you understand? Do you have no conscience, wanting to hit someone that old, what’s wrong with you?" A student saw Mr. Yoshida attempting to fight back and hurriedly shouted.
"Exactly, have you no shame? Daring to hit an elderly in our country? Don’t worry, old man, I’ll help you hold him." Another student rolled up his sleeves and joined the fray.
"You’re students, don’t hit him, just hold him, I’ll do the beating," the old man said with some wisdom, directly assigning tasks.
"Alright, old man, your word is our command." The student really did grab hold of Mr. Yoshida’s arm, preparing to drag him aside.
Mr. Yoshida also realized that this student seemed to be up to no good and wriggled his arm out of his grasp with a flick.
"Ouch, what’s this? A trained fighter, eh? Come on then, let me have a go at you," another student stepped forward.
As a result, several of the male onlookers joined in to help skew the fight, letting the gatekeeper hit with all his might. Of course, in such chaos, knocks and bumps were inevitable, and after they had ejected Mr. Yoshida out of the university gate, a couple of the students who helped break up the fight also sustained some minor injuries.
But none were serious, and they were all chuckling about the satisfying thrashing they had doled out. After Mr. Yoshida ran away, they each scurried off to their respective classrooms. The bell for class had already rung, and they hoped the teacher would overlook their tardiness considering they’d just sought revenge for their country.
As for Mr. Yoshida, after escaping, he jumped into a car and sped away. He was so angry that he could explode and drove straight to the entrance of the city hall, but there he was stopped by another gatekeeper, looking disheveled.
Mr. Yoshida was about to go mad with rage, swearing to be at odds with all gatekeepers from then on.
But without permission, he really had no choice. He could only return to the hotel, take a bath, change his clothes, and then run back again.
The gatekeeper at the city hall, seeing that he now looked decent, finally let him in.
Mr. Yoshida barged into the Investment Promotion Office, and upon entering, he unleashed his frustration on Director Wu, leaving Director Wu and the other staff utterly confused.
Holding back his grievances, Mr. Yoshida no longer cared about being the refined gentleman and glared fiercely at Director Wu: "I’ve suffered such humiliation in your jurisdiction, you must give me an explanation."
Director Wu blinked and turning to a subordinate, said, "Xiaowang, go check if there’s anyone from the translation department who knows Japanese. Hurry and call someone over; I can’t understand a word of this gibberish."
