Everyone knew the might of a Desert Eagle, one shot could blow half a body away.
But against these monsters, it seemed somewhat inadequate, requiring fifteen shots, and that still wasn’t enough to completely kill them.
Daniel didn’t have time to be stunned, he quickly turned around to assist Hols.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Hols was also continually firing, but unlike Daniel, he needed to reload.
Despite having a magazine ready, reloading took a precious two or three seconds.
In that interval, the Ghoul had already rushed up to him.
Bang!
Hols had just fired a shot when he suddenly felt a chill on his hand.
He subconsciously wanted to keep pulling the trigger, but no gunshots followed.
It wasn’t until blood gushed out like a fountain that he noticed the clean cut at his wrist.
His hand, severed by the Ghoul’s sharp claws, had fallen to the ground.
"Ah!"
Hols let out a piercing scream, falling onto his butt.
With his other hand propped against the ground, he pleaded to Daniel, "Help... help me!"
By this time, the Ghoul was right in front of him.
The fear in Hols’ eyes was palpable as he continued to speak, "I don’t want to... die..."
Before he could even finish the word ’die’, Hols saw the Ghoul’s claws, sharper than any blade, slice across his neck.
His view abruptly rose into the air, spinning around.
After two or three seconds, it fell to the ground. 𝑛𝘰𝘷𝑝𝘶𝑏.𝑐𝘰𝘮
His final view was of Daniel firing his gun frantically.
Boom!
The gunshot rang out, bullets flying rapidly.
Daniel was equally stunned.
It was too fast!
He had no time to react before seeing Hols, seated on the ground, beheaded by the Ghoul.
At the neck, a clean cut, spraying blood upwards.
The Ghoul cast a lingering look at the delicious corpse, then turned its head towards Daniel. It seemed to think that feasting on both would be even more satisfying.
Daniel kept retreating while firing his gun, quietly counting in his head, "Eleven, twelve, thirteen...fifteen!"
After fifteen successful hits, the Ghoul let out a howl and fell to the ground.
Not one shot more, not one shot less. It seemed that the durability of the Ghouls was pretty consistent.
Yet, Daniel couldn’t afford to relax.
He quickly moved to the other side of the corridor, keeping his distance.
He observed the bodies of the two Ghouls from the shadows.
The two Ghouls died almost at the same time, with a difference of just a few seconds.
Daniel watched the time while observing.
The first Ghoul that he killed started to tremble on the ground, and eventually managed to stand up again.
Daniel looked at his watch, "45 seconds."
A Ghoul killed with fifteen shots revived in just 45 seconds. Terrifying!
Thankfully, he had only encountered two so far.
If all twelve appeared, by the time he killed the last one, the first one would have probably already revived.
One person could not handle this alone.
At this thought, Daniel felt a stronger urge to retreat.
Compared to treasure, his own life was more important.
"It’s better to get out!"
Without hesitation, Daniel turned around and ran.
Although he wasn’t sure if the route back was blocked, compared to running aimlessly within the pyramid, it was better to return the way he came and look for an exit.
Soon, Daniel passed the first room.
Without looking back, he continued to run forward.
After crossing the hole he had opened, he saw a faint light.
It was the starry sky outside the entrance.
The way back wasn’t blocked!
A surge of joy filled Daniel’s heart.
At the same time, he regretted not choosing to return the same way.
If he had, Hols might not have died.
However, just when the starry sky got larger and he was about to run out of the passage, the stars at the entrance were suddenly blocked.
Daniel abruptly halted his steps.
He could tell that the entrance was being obscured by a shadow.
A Ghoul!
Daniel hesitated only for a split second before charging ahead.
Damn it! It was just a Ghoul - fifteen bullets could take it down!
However, as he prepared to fire, his mind buzzed.
Several shadows were flickering inside the entrance.
There was more than one Ghoul!
Daniel turned on his headlamp, casting light on the situation.
What he saw made his heart sink.
Five Ghouls were crouching in the front passage, walling off the entrance like a solid barrier.
He recalled when they first entered, it felt as if Taylor had bumped into something.
Afterward, he noticed the entrance seemed blocked by something.
It was clear - these things had been there from the beginning!
Five Ghouls were not easy to handle.
Daniel turned around, planning to retreat to the first room and figure out a plan.
However, turning around, he saw the previous two Ghouls had already caught up.
He was screwed!
Caught between a rock and a hard place with seven Ghouls, it seemed like he had no way out. Was he really going to meet his end here?
Screw that!
Daniel was taken aback by his predicament.
He’d never thought he’d end up dying in such a godforsaken place.
With a roar like a wrathful demon, he cursed at the Ghouls blocking the entrance, "Fuck you ugly bastards, you really think you can eat me?"
"Eat lead, you vermin!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bullets flew, mercilessly penetrating the bodies of the monsters.
Daniel charged towards the entrance - he was going to have to push through either way, he might as well head for the exit.
If he could burst through, there might still be a chance.
These creatures weren’t fast.
If he could get to his vehicle, there was no way they could catch him!
His Desert Eagle, in Daniel’s hand, was a relentless source of flashing fire.
Although it was a semi-automatic pistol, he fired it with the intensity of an automatic weapon.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each bullet hit the monsters right in their heads, dealing far more damage than before.
The monster at the front fell after just ten shots.
Aim for the head!
Daniel had an epiphany and began shooting at the monster’s head.
With his sharpshooter-level gun skills and perfect accuracy, there was no chance of missing a shot.
But there were simply too many monsters, and they were too close.
Within a few seconds, they had closed in on him.
At that point, he had only taken down two of the five monsters in front of him.
The remaining three swung their claws towards Daniel’s head.
Although Daniel was far stronger than an average person, he was still no match for these monsters - especially three of them at once!
In a flash, a silver light streaked past, and Daniel’s vision began to rise as his head was lobbed off and fell to the ground.
Damn it!
As he saw the monsters pounce towards his body, Daniel felt a sense of injustice.
...
Cold, hot.
Daniel opened his eyes, feeling like he was trapped between fire and ice.
He was astonished as he felt his neck - his skin was unharmed without a scratch.
Had he... resurrected?!
Daniel looked around incredulously.
The torches burning on the wall lit up the room, allowing him to see everything clearly.
The room made of massive stones made it clear to Daniel that he hadn’t left the pyramid.
But luckily, he wasn’t dead!
What on earth was going on?
Daniel was puzzled, but he was happy to be alive.
"I wonder if Hols and Taylor have resurrected too."
"Or maybe they also resurrected here and then went to find a way out?"
He glanced around and noticed a hole, about one and a half times the height of a person.
Walking over, he saw human footprints in the dust on the ground. It could be Hols or Taylor!
Standing inside and looking out, he saw nothing but darkness.
It seemed to be a narrow passage.
He subconsciously reached for his waist, and, to his surprise, his Desert Eagle was still there!
This was very odd.
Not only could one resurrect, but also retain all the possessions they had before death.
This didn’t seem like a simple resurrection, but more like reloading a saved game in a video game.
Daniel became more and more intrigued by the pyramid.
It seemed to hold many remarkable secrets.
No wonder Hols and Taylor were so obsessed with this place.
Perhaps it really did contain some divine legacy?
Daniel crawled out of the room and switched on his headlamp.
This passage clearly wasn’t the same one that led to the entrance, so he must be deeper inside the pyramid.
The most troubling thing at the moment was that he didn’t know his exact location, let alone the direction he should go.
Fortunately, he still had the compass he’d received from the show’s crew.
To be safe, Daniel returned to the room and looked at the compass.
The needle pointed to the right of the hole.
He had entered the pyramid from the north, so he just needed to follow the direction opposite the compass’s needle to roughly find his way back.
Daniel put away the compass and took out his satellite phone, installing the battery.
He had planned to call the show’s crew for military backup and then contact Hols and Taylor.
However, he found that the phone was unusable - there was no signal!
The phone had worked in the passage that connected to the entrance.
But it didn’t work here.
Was it because he was in the heart of the pyramid?
Or perhaps he was underneath the pyramid!
He had seen the 3D map that Taylor had created, and there was indeed a large hollow area right under the pyramid.
Daniel started to worry.
If he had indeed been resurrected underground, then things were going to be really tough.
Forget about the Ghouls, even without them, trying to navigate out of this place without a map was going to be a real challenge.
The numerous and complex passages inside the pyramid were just like a labyrinth!
