Chapter 117: _ I’m Coming

Rhett went over to where Kylo was being held by a young man whom Rhett decided might be his friend.

He scooped his son into his arms and surged forward, ignoring the throbbing pain in his arm from the recent scuffle. He headed straight to Aceco as the weight of his son’s condition grounded him in a way the chaos hadn’t.

On getting to Aceco, who stood amidst the carnage like an oasis of peace, he pleaded, "Aceco, please. You have to save him."

Aceco, with her silver hair shimmering in the moonlight, met his agitated gaze with a serene smile. "Calm yourself, Gamma Rhett. I came not just for one, but to heal all who are wounded."

Then, she gestured towards a nearby shade. "Lay them there, in a line. I will work my magic on all of them."

Rhett dropped Kylo with Aceco and barked out orders to the soldiers to gather the injured. "You heard the woman! Gather the injured on a line. I want the heavily injured ones in the front. The line should be formed according to the intensity of wounds!"

With obedience, everyone desperate for healing began to gather. The fey were the ones who stood up first because, unlike the werewolves, they couldn’t heal fast. Their bodies were like that of humans except for the magic in their blood.

Although, some of them were taming their wounds with their magic but none could heal like Aceco.

Rhett’s heart bled when he saw the amount of pack soldiers that were injured. Thankfully, none of the children were hurt, not even Isleen’s son who couldn’t get under the shield.

As if on cue, a cry pierced through the night. "My mother! She needs healing too!" It was Liam, shaking with Isleen whose head was on his legs, without motion.

Rhett began to dig his dagger into his lap. Why didn’t he just stay with her and protect her? How could he let her be this wounded?

Be this hurt?

The dagger did its job, wounding him but not entirely delivering the amount of pain he wanted. He wanted one that would give him a kind of pain that would lord over the one in his heart right now.

He couldn’t explain the ache in his heart seeing Isleen lying there like that. Yet, the situation didn’t permit him to react. That was the most agonizing part of it.

As much as he yearned to run off to her, to hold her, tell her she’d be fine, be there for her, he could do nothing still.

Wasn’t that pathetic? Didn’t that make him a pathetic man? He swore by all that was right, once the pack healed from this loss, he would hold Isleen’s hands and announce on the national TV that she was his mate.

His and his alone.

"The Omega should be treated last!" someone shouted from the crowd, snapping Rhett out of his thoughts. "She was hiding during the fight!" a wounded Elf sneered.

"No! She was protecting the children. Don’t you dare call her useless!"

Another wolf, this one younger and brash, scoffed. "Protecting children? We were all fighting for our lives here! She’s weak, a burden. Let her wait."!"

"You don’t have a say here. Isleen needs treatment first!" Kylo snarled back at them, causing Rhett to look at him.

Aceco was done with him and was healing Maria Beasley’s daughter. At least, his son was fine. That was more than enough to soothe Rhett’s pain a little and make him stop tearing himself discreetly with his dagger.

Even though he had indeed done a lot tonight, it felt like he had done nothing, seeing Isleen and Kylo battered.

"Weak and useless!" a hulking wolf spat. "She doesn’t deserve a spot before the rest of us!"

Argh. These people should better stop talking down on his mate before he lost his cool; Rhett’s jaw began to clench as he bit his own teeth.

How dare they think of themselves better than Isleen? When the fight was severe, instead of saving herself first, he did see her taking two kids to safety.

If that wasn’t brave, what was?

Kylo lunged forward to challenge the wolf who said Isleen deserved to be treated last only to be restrained by Rhett’s iron grip.

He knew the argument was pointless. The pack was shaken and bloodied, and they needed an outlet for their fear and anger. Isleen, unfortunately, had become their scapegoat.

As always.

"Enough!" Rhett roared, silencing the crowd.

He turned to a nearby soldier. "Bring Isleen here. Now."

No one would dare question his authority, and he sure as hell didn’t care what the people thought. Isleen was the weakest in the pack as she had less wolfy features among them all.

That made treating her first valid.

If anyone had a problem with that, let them take it on with him.

His gaze darted towards Isleen, who lay propped against Liam’s legs still with a pale face but her eyes open. She was awake.

Relief flooded Rhett as their eyes met. Then, she gave him a faint nod of gratitude. She might be thanking him for saving her but to Rhett, it was like a silent reassurance that she was alright.

It was everything he needed at the moment.

When the soldiers brought Isleen before Aceco, the murmurs subsided. As it should be.

However, when Aceco was done healing her and she said she saw a surreal woman in her dream, Rhett’s curiosity took the best of him, and he made a mistake.

Trust Kylo to think of it as a result of his hatred for Isleen. So, he had to let her go for now without question. He hadn’t slept since the last time he met the Moon Goddess.

Now again, he knew undoubtedly well that she was the one Isleen met in her dreams since Aceco had sensed it too.

But what could she have discussed with Isleen? Was that why she seemed less hostile around him?

He needed to have a conversation with Isleen very soon. It was because the longing for her was overwhelming because every time he saw her, he wasn’t the man he was anymore.

But now, it was to find out what the Moon Goddess could have discussed with her too. He never knew the Moon Goddess could appear in other people’s dreams too.

She had only been present in him all of his life. Because he was the chosen one - the prophesied one.

He needed to sleep as soon as possible and find out whatever was going on. Maybe this was her way of sending him a message that he was taking too long to return to her.

"I’m coming, master," Rhett muttered under his breath.
