Chapter 246: Cullen Is The Vampire

Isleen

"Why don’t you go talk to my dad instead!" Kylo spat coldly.

Something was off with him and it made me worked up. But this... What could he mean?

Had he somehow found out about me and Gamma Rhett?

"W– what do you mean by that, Kylo?" I managed to muster up enough boldness to ask.

I blinked erratically as I watched Kylo’s face twitch even more. He yanked his arm away from my grip and was about to say something when Cullen walked in and held his shoulder.

It was discreet, but I was able to notice the subtle exchange between them. They knew something that they weren’t telling me and I had a feeling that I knew what it was.

Cullen the bastard! I’d trusted him. I’d confided in him and told him everything about me and Rhett, but it seemed he’d shared my secrets with Kylo.

That was the only rational explanation for why Kylo was acting this way. I had to figure something out... Fast.

However, Kylo walked away, almost bumping into me. In the process, the glass of liquor in his hand fell, shattering into several pieces on the floor.

The sound caused my heart to leap into my throat as Kylo groaned in frustration before leaving me alone with Cullen.

Was he even Cullen? Should I even still call him that?

If I’d had doubts before, this bastard wasn’t fooling me anymore. He was the vampire! It all made sense.

The dark presence that I’d sensed with my special ability the other day came again when he touched me, trying to comfort me. For some reason, my ability had become more potent and active, and it’d been a chore ignoring it whenever it sensed fey outside the house.

But now, I was able to use it to bypass Cullen’s—or rather the vampire’s, disguises and sense his vampire blood.

My heart dropped and my body shivered with uneasiness. Everything from the way he talked to the way he smiled at me was all eerily similar to the real Cullen’s mannerisms. He was a good actor, that was for sure.

During my conversation with him, I brought up Lupe’s murder to see his reaction. He seemed genuinely shocked and saddened, and if I didn’t know better now, then maybe I would’ve believed him.

But now? I had to get the heck away from him. I needed to call Rhett.

However, my eyes caught something on Cullen’s body just then. It was a dagger, strapped to his pants. Apart from the fact that it was silver, something else stood out about it. I’d seen it before!

Lupe... The day before she was murdered, she’d shown me the same dagger, telling me that she’d use it to keep the both of us safe in case the vampire that I’d sensed was to ever show up again.

The next morning, I’d rushed out to discuss with the principal of the school we were to both teach in before later going to meet Rhett.

Who would’ve known that the ’vampire’ she’d wanted to protect us from would be our friend in disguise?

"I have to go... Take a nap." I stuttered, trying my best to avoid his gaze.

However, as I made to walk away, he grabbed my wrist, holding me back.

Shit! Had he found me out? Was he... Was he going to kill me like he did Lupe?

I wanted to scream but was too startled to, so instead. "C–Cullen? You’re hurting my arm." I stuttered, my lips quivering with fear.

I noticed his eyes flashing with a cold glint for a brief second. But eventually, he let me go with a smile. A smile that I now knew masked a sadistic killer underneath.

I darted out of the kitchen, bumping into him intentionally. I’d grabbed something from his body and hid it away just before I bumped into Kylo on the stairs.

His gaze lingered on me with a myriad of emotions in his eyes, but one that stood out was worry. He was still worried about me. There was still hope for him but now wasn’t the time.

I rushed to my room, closing the door behind me as I finally allowed myself to sigh with relief.

I quickly brought out my phone and dialed Rhett’s number, but there was no reply.

"Come on, please pick up," I muttered, praying mentally that he’d pick up.

After several failed attempts, I flung my phone on my bed and groaned out in frustration. It was then that I brought out what I’d stolen when I bumped into Cullen.

Lupe’s dagger.

The silver coating of the dagger’s blade glimmered under the dim lighting of the room, and I couldn’t help wondering what atrocities the vampire had carried out with it.

Did Lupe even have the chance to use it before she was brutally murdered? Why did the bastard still keep the dagger with himself after killing her?

Well, I had a feeling that all that would be answered soon. This dagger was more than enough evidence that Cullen was the vampire. I just needed to get it to Aceco.

Just then, my phone rang, and I hurriedly picked it up. It was Rhett.

"Isleen? Are you okay?" He queried with a worried tone. "I’m sorry I couldn’t pick up your calls earlier, I... I just took an excuse from a really urgent meeting."

I nodded my understanding, even though he couldn’t see me. I got up from the bed, making my way to the window. I’d heard Kylo opening the living room door and watched as he walked away into the evening.

"Isleen, are you there?" Rhett’s voice sounded again from the other end, snapping me out of my thoughts.

They were all over the place as it stands.

"Yeah, sorry. It’s just that... I found something." I whispered into the phone, scared that ’Cullen’ would hear our conversation from downstairs. "I don’t have much time to explain, but I think I have an item here that fits the criteria Aceco brought up two weeks ago. An item that both Cullen and Lupe have interacted with."

There was silence at the other end, causing me to get tense. Damn it Rhett, now’s not the time for dramatic pauses.

Just then, I heard a click on the living room door and rushed to have a glance at what was happening downstairs. ’Cullen’ had just stepped out, his movements looking suspicious as he glanced around.

I covered the curtains, my heart rate only increasing as I struggled to breathe.

"Can you come over to the Alpha’s house?" Rhett suddenly asked.

After managing to control my breathing, I muttered a reply. "Yes. If we’d had doubts before, I think they all end tonight. Cullen IS the vampire."
