Chapter 147: 147, Call Jian Qing (4)_1
Hastily rushing here, the sight of the person on the hospital bed,I.V. attached, let a few of the tense strings in Black Jack and Bai Jue’s minds loosen.
Bai Jue slowly walked over, sizing up Jian Luo from top to bottom, and once he confirmed that he was not seriously injured, an irreverent smile reappeared on his face.
“Jian Luo, you’ve really grown impressive beasts of balls, coming to the hospital to experience what it’s like to be a patient, eh?”
Jian Luo glanced at him, “Buzz off.”
Bai Jue tutted, sauntered over to the sofa, and sat down, teasing,
“Jian Luo, you have no idea. Riding in Black Jack’s car just now felt like being in a rocket, so very thrilling.”
Jian Luo lowered his head, not daring to look at Black Jack standing by the door.
The sound of steady footsteps approached, stirring up a drumbeat in Jian Luo’s heart.
Those shiny black shoes stopped in front of the sickbed. Black Jack looked down at the person on the bed, and his handsome eyebrows furrowed when he saw the injuries on his forehead and arm.
“Jian Luo, how did you get injured?” His cold voice contained no trace of warmth. Jian Luo’s heart skipped a beat.
Black Jack rarely called his full name. It seemed he was really angry this time.
Jian Luo lowered his head, not daring to meet his gaze, and said weakly, “An accident… I just had a minor collision while driving.”
Black Jack looked at him silently for a moment, then spoke softly but deeply, “Bai Jue, check his injuries.”
Understanding Black Jack’s intention, Bai Jue rose and came over.
“Wait, the doctor has already checked it. It’s a minor injury, really, I’m okay.” If Bai Jue inspected his injury, he would see the fraudulent wound on his arm. He absolutely could not allow Bai Jue to examine him.
“I’ll be fine in a few days. Really.”
Bai Jue crossed his arms, grinning, “Jian Luo, you’re in such a hurry. There must be something fishy going on. Either confess what happened, or I’ll examine you personally.”
“It was just a car accident. My car is still parked on the mountain road. If you don’t believe me, go see for yourselves,” Jian Luo hurriedly added.
“Bai Jue, call Jian Qing,” Black Jack commanded emotionlessly.
Acknowledging him, Bai Jue drew out his cell phone. Jian Luo immediately reached out to grab it.
“No! Bai Jue, if you dare to call my sister, our friendship is over.”
If this reached his sister, he would undoubtedly be imprisoned. And if his sister knew that his injuries were caused by someone else, she would never let Mo Xiao off the hook.
“Oh, ending our friendship?” Bai Jue held up his cell phone and dodged his hand with a smirk, turning to Black Jack, “Are you telling me that you’re also thinking of ending your friendship with Black Jack?”
His words filled the ward with a sudden oppressive silence.
Just then, a doctor walked in. Seeing the people in the ward, he felt like he’d walked in at the wrong time.
“Doctor, may I ask, how is this patient’s injury?” Bai Jue asked.
“Who are you?” The doctor looked at the two of them uncertainly.
“We’re his family.” Bai Jue pointed at Jian Luo on the bed, speaking lightly.
“As I’ve told you, it’s just a minor injury. The doctor said to rest and it will heal.” Jian Luo’s eyes gleamed with a hint of nervousness as he looked at the doctor, wishing he could sew Bai Jue’s mouth shut.
The doctor looked at Jian Luo disapprovingly and said seriously, “Though a mild concussion can be recovered from with rest, the stab wound on your arm cannot be overlooked. If you’re not careful, it can become infected.”
At his words, Bai Jue laughed while Black Jack’s face grew even darker.
Jian Luo quickly pulled the blankets over his head to block their view.
“Doctor, could you come back in a bit? We need to discuss things right now.” Bai Jue politely smiled.
The doctor looked at the three of them, somewhat puzzled. Seeing the irrefutable sternness in Bai Jue’s eyes, he replied, “Well, don’t take too long. The patient needs to rest. I’ll come back later to change his bandages.”
“Thank you.” Bai Jue saw the doctor off and then closed the door to the ward.
“Jian Luo!” Black Jack growled, struggling to control his emotions.
The person hiding under the blanket felt his heart flutter, overwhelmed by feelings of despair.
Black Jack reached out and pulled off the blanket, forcing him to look at him. “Jian Luo, I’m giving you one last chance to tell me what happened. If you don’t, I’ll investigate it myself or let Jian Qing do it.”
“You’re using my sister to threaten me again,” Jian Luo glared at him accusingly.
“Jian Luo, I would advise you to confess. Otherwise, there’s no doubt that your sister will know about your hospitalization in the next minute,” Bai Jue warned, standing at the foot of the bed.
After a while, Jian Luo started stuttering, “I did collide with another car. The owner of the car was being hunted down, and so I was dragged into it. That’s why… I’m like this now.”
Of course, he couldn’t reveal a word about the gunfight. Otherwise, this would never end.
“The person who got you involved?” Black Jack asked coldly.
Knowing Black Jack’s temperament and that he was ready to settle accounts with that person, Jian Luo hurriedly explained, “It really wasn’t the car owner’s fault. He had asked me to leave then. I felt like it wasn’t right to leave him behind. And later on, he protected me. He even brought me to the hospital.”
“Jian Luo, when did you develop such an audacious spirit to stand up against injustice, eh?” Bai Jue teased.
Jian Luo glared at him, then turned to look at Black Jack, reaching out to tug at his arm, “Black Jack, this incident really has nothing to do with that person. And the people who were chasing us have been dealt with, so can you please not investigate this?”
Black Jack stared at him, his tone still cold, “Jian Luo, have you ever considered the feelings of those who care about you – me, Bai Jue, your sister, your grandpa – when you risk your life like this?”
Seeing the coldness in his blue eyes, Jian Luo opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.
Upon introspection, he asked himself, if the person he met today wasn’t Mo Xiao, would he still have done what he did?
The obvious answer was: no.
Even though he had just met Mo Xiao today, he felt a strange sense of closeness towards him.
This inexplicable feeling made it impossible for him to abandon Mo Xiao to face the danger alone.
After a moment of silence, his voice hoarse, he said, “I’m sorry!”
Black Jack looked at him, a glint of sorrow flashing in his eyes, but he still wore the mask of cold indifference on his face. He had to make him understand the consequences.
Nobody knew that when he heard that Jian Luo was in the hospital, he nearly lost his mind, with his thoughts becoming a blur, the only thing he knew to do was to drive as fast as he could to the hospital.
Hardening his heart, he roughly released Jian Luo’s hand. Black Jack sternly said, “Jian Luo, are you relying on our concern for you to behave so recklessly, without considering others’ feelings?”
