Chapter 249: Chapter 249 No more fear(3)
The energy hit the shadow directly, its form convulsing and writhing as the thunder coursed through it. Kyra’s eyes burned with fierce determination as she kept pushing the energy forward, not allowing the shadow a moment of reprieve. She felt the power surge from her core, raw and untamed, as if it was an extension of her will.
The shadow tried to pull back, but it was too late. The energy was relentless, burning away its darkness, tearing it apart bit by bit. The once-threatening entity began to break down, its form disintegrating under the intensity of Kyra’s attack.
With a final surge of power, Kyra’s thunder reached its peak, and the shadow let out a last, ear-piercing wail before it crumbled into ash. The air sizzled with the aftershock of her power, tiny sparks dancing around the room as the ash slowly settled on the floor.
Kyra stood there, her chest heaving as she lowered her hands, watching as the last remnants of the shadow disappeared into nothingness. The threat was gone, reduced to nothing but dust in the wind. She took a deep breath, her body humming with the lingering energy of her power.
It was over.
The shadow was dead, obliterated by the very force it had underestimated. Kyra looked at the faint trail of ash on the floor, a small but powerful smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
She wasn’t the frightened girl who used to tremble in the face of danger anymore. She was someone far stronger—someone who could fight back and win.
’That’s amazing, Kyra!’ her beast shouted in excitement. ’More practice... the more powerful you’ll become,’ it continued, practically vibrating with joy in her mind.
Kyra allowed herself a small smile at her beast’s enthusiasm but was quickly brought back to reality by Lucas’s concerned voice.
"Ky Ky?" His voice was soft, and when she turned to face him, both he and Damon were already awake, their eyes full of questions.
Lucas’s brow furrowed with worry. "What happened? I heard some strange sounds, but I couldn’t wake up... It was like something was keeping me down." His silver eyes scanned her, looking for any sign that something was wrong.
Damon, with his more stoic expression, had his arms crossed, but Kyra could tell from his tense stance that he was just as disturbed. "I had a similar experience," he said, his voice low but calm as he walked closer. "Do you think it’s the same person who’s been sending beasts and shadows after us? Are they trying a different approach now?"
Kyra sighed softly and nodded. "It has to be... Something was here, a shadow, something dark." She swallowed, still feeling the remnants of that suffocating grip. "It tried to attack me, but I fought back this time." Her eyes met theirs, and she continued, "It’s definitely connected to whoever’s been targeting us. They’re getting bolder."
Damon’s eyes darkened at the mention of the shadow, his protective instincts flaring up. "You fought it off?" he asked, more impressed than surprised.
Kyra nodded, her voice steady. "Yeah... I used my thunder ability, and it worked. I destroyed it—turned it into ash." She clenched her fists slightly, feeling a surge of pride but also unease. "But this... it felt different. Like they’re testing us, seeing how far they can push."
Damon’s eyes narrowed. "We’ll need to find out who’s behind this. No more waiting for them to strike first." His tone was final, filled with the determination that always seemed to steel him in moments of danger.
Kyra agreed, her mind sharpening as she considered what lay ahead. Whoever was behind this wasn’t going to stop, and neither was she.
Lucas moved closer, gently placing his hand on Kyra’s shoulder. His worry was clear as he asked, "What are those shadows, and why are they after you?"
Kyra hesitated for a moment, her eyes meeting his. She wasn’t ready to tell him everything—not yet. Seeing how tense he looked, she decided to keep things vague. "I’m not sure either," she replied softly, avoiding the full truth for now. She didn’t want to burden him with more worry.
Lucas nodded slowly, accepting her answer though his concern remained. "Okay," he said, pulling her into a tight hug. "Let’s go back to bed. You must’ve been scared." His voice was soothing as he guided her back to bed, lying down beside her. This time, he wrapped his arms securely around her, resting her head against his chest. His embrace was warm, protective—his way of reassuring her. 𝒏𝙤𝙫𝒑𝙪𝙗.𝙘𝒐𝙢
As Kyra settled into Lucas’s arms, Damon lay on the other side, his eyes never leaving them. He felt a strong urge to replace Lucas, to be the one comforting her, but he held himself back. Instead, he took his place beside them, his presence reassuring but distant.
Lucas glanced down at Kyra’s face. Her red hair cascaded over his arm, and he couldn’t help but notice how different she seemed lately. Her power was growing, and so was her beauty. Her face had a new glow to it, her lips had become more pink, and her hair had grown slightly longer. Every detail stood out to him, and he noticed everything about her.
His thoughts wandered to the shadows that had attacked her. They seemed to be targeting Kyra specifically, and that worried him deeply. Lucas’s gaze shifted toward Damon, who was watching them quietly. It was hard for Lucas to accept, but he knew Kyra needed all the protection she could get. If that meant Damon being a part of her life, then he had no choice but to allow it.
For Kyra’s sake, they would have to protect her, no matter what came their way.
Lucas sighed, feeling a deep sense of longing. He just wanted to escape the chaos and return home with Kyra, Vincent, and maybe Damon. Home felt so far away, and he missed the comfort and peace it used to offer.
Though he had decided to accept Damon, Lucas wasn’t ready to go easy on him just yet. A sly smile tugged at his lips as he started thinking of some evil plans to embarrass Damon in front of Kyra. Maybe a little harmless prank here or a misstep there. Just enough to show Damon who still had the upper hand. It wasn’t out of malice, but Lucas had a mischievous streak in him, and it would be fun to keep Damon on his toes.
