Chapter 334: Chapter 334 I’ll make it up to you
"Okay, okay, no need to stick with him anymore," Vincent said, pulling Lucas away from Oceanus with a firm tug, though his tone remained light. Lucas let out a playful huff but complied, rolling to the other side of Kyra, curling up comfortably.
"We’re worried for Rainbow," Vincent added, settling down on the other side of Lucas, making sure she was well-guarded between them. Damon nodded in agreement, positioning himself nearby with his usual serious expression.
"We’re here to guard," Damon said, his voice low but firm. Oceanus watched them with quiet amusement, the sight of Damon and Vincent taking their roles so seriously a little amusing.
Soon, the group found themselves slowly drifting into a peaceful sleep under the starry sky. Even Oceanus, despite his teasing earlier, allowed himself to relax. The gentle rustling of the wind through the trees, the soft chirping of crickets, and the quiet breathing of his little star created a serene atmosphere.
However, Damon didn’t dare to fully fall asleep. He was a light sleeper, always alert, even in the calmest of moments. His gaze swept over the surroundings, ensuring there were no threats nearby. But suddenly, something caught his eye.
A shadow shifted near a thick tree not too far from where they were resting. Damon’s eyes narrowed, focusing intently. There, in the darkness, he spotted a large figure—a bird, its wings folded as it watched them silently.
Eagle.
Damon’s jaw tightened as he recognized the distinct shape of the majestic bird, perched in the distance. It was no ordinary eagle—it was Silas, in his beast form. The eagle’s sharp, predatory eyes were fixed on Kyra and the group, watching protectively from the shadows.
Damon’s gaze remained fixed on the eagle for a moment longer, his lips thinning as frustration welled up inside him. He’s so weird, Damon thought, not for the first time. Silas, in his beast form, perched high and brooding, made him uneasy. But the truth was, Damon disliked him for far deeper reasons. Because of Silas, Kyra had run away. It had been their first night together as mates, and instead of spending it with him, she had fled into the night, leaving him with a hollow ache in his chest.
Damon’s jaw clenched, and his eyes shifted to where Oceanus lay beside Kyra, their bodies close, and his irritation deepened. Not only was Silas powerful—so annoyingly powerful—but he was also gorgeous. Damon’s hand balled into a fist at the thought. Silas was competition, and the worst part? Oceanus had turned out to be the main husband, the title Damon had hoped would be his.
The thought made his chest feel tight. He had always assumed he would be the one closest to Kyra, the one to hold that special place in her heart. But now, it was Oceanus. Damon could feel the sour taste of jealousy burning in his gut. He should have been the one to kiss her, to hold her, to find his mark glowing on her skin.
I love her. He wanted to confess it, to tell Kyra just how much she meant to him. But instead, here he was, stuck in his own thoughts, watching from a distance as others claimed the moments he longed for.
Damon’s eyes lowered, his eyelashes fluttering against his cheeks as he tried to keep his emotions in check. The weight of unspoken feelings made his heart heavy, his mind filled with longing and frustration. He glanced back at Kyra, her peaceful face as she slept under the stars, and the ache in his chest only grew.
He would find a way to tell her. Soon.
[Next morning]
Kyra blinked, surprised by her own position. She was wrapped up in Damon’s embrace, her cheek resting on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Wait, I fell asleep with Oceanus, didn’t I? Her gaze wandered around and stopped at Vincent, who was clinging to Lucas, who remained in his beast form, the large wolf sprawled on the grass with his fluffy tail wrapped around Vincent.
She could feel Damon’s warmth against her, his arm draped protectively over her waist. His long blue hair was fanned out on the green grass, glinting in the soft morning light, and his peaceful, innocent expression tugged at her heart. His closed eyes, with long eyelashes casting faint shadows on his cheekbones, and his thin lips—everything about him seemed so serene, so at ease. His strong arms held her close, making her feel safe and secure.
But as she looked at his calm face, guilt washed over her. Last night... It was supposed to be our first night as mates. Instead, she had run off with Oceanus, leaving Damon behind. Her heart sank at the thought of how that must have hurt him. The soft sound of his heartbeat in her ear made the guilt feel heavier, the weight of her decision pressing down on her chest.
Without thinking, Kyra leaned in closer. Her lips brushed against his, and she bit down softly, a mixture of affection and guilt swirling inside her. Damon stirred, his eyes fluttering open as he looked at her, confused at first but then a soft smile formed on his lips.
"Little thing...?" he murmured, his voice still thick with sleep.
Kyra’s face flushed as she pulled back, biting her lip. "I’m sorry, Damon," she whispered, her eyes filled with sincerity. "Last night... I should’ve stayed."
Damon’s expression softened, his thumb gently brushing against her cheek. "You’re here now," he said quietly, his voice holding a hint of relief.
She smiled softly at his words, but the guilt still lingered. I’ll make it up to you, she thought, determined. This was their moment, and she wouldn’t let it slip away again.
"I brought fruits for you~~" Oceanus’s voice rang out, breaking the morning silence. Kyra turned her head and sat up, her eyes widening when she saw him holding an entire branch of mangoes. n𝚘𝚟𝚙𝚞𝚋.𝚌o𝚖
Kyra blinked at Oceanus, who was now sitting beside her with an entire branch of large, unripe mangoes in his hands. The green fruit hung heavily, and she could already imagine how tangy they must taste. Her face scrunched up at the thought, but before she could protest, Oceanus was grinning, holding out a leaf with chili powder mixed with salt.
"Little Star, it tastes better with chili and salt," he said playfully, his eyes twinkling.
"Where did you get these?" Kyra asked, eyeing the mangoes with a mix of curiosity and hesitation.
Oceanus chuckled, glancing over at Damon, who was now fully awake, sitting cross-legged and looking at the mangoes with mild interest. "Of course, Simon brought them for me,"
