Chapter 241: Chapter 241: Si Chen Arrives

Tong Yaohui acted high and mighty in front of them because they were the younger generation. However, when it came to dealing with his sister-in-law and sister, he would surely show his due respect, wouldn’t he?

Once at the scene, the two women could execute their plan to cry, make a scene, and threaten suicide. Tong Yaohui would certainly be forced to compromise.

"Let’s proceed with this idea." Tong Sikui thought the plan might actually work. After all, no matter how shameless Tong Yaohui was, he wouldn’t possibly resort to physically assaulting his sister-in-law and sister.

After discussing the plan, Lin Shuxin steered the conversation towards Tong Yao, deriding: "I don’t know what your uncle was thinking, selecting such a pauper for Yaoyao’s in-laws. It’s no wonder they’re fighting with us for the property. This was probably Yaoyao and her husband’s idea. If they had chosen someone capable from Kyoto, they wouldn’t be eyeing the minimal wealth of the Tong family. It’s such a waste of a fine daughter, ruining a perfectly good situation."

Sikui was puzzled by this as well, "I heard Si Chen’s education was funded by uncle. Uncle must have gotten senile to choose a son-in-law who aims for the wealth of the bride’s family. To be honest, I can’t respect such a man. It’s shameful for our male brethren."

Listening to the latter part of the conversation, Lin Shuxin’s expression became a bit odd. He felt that Tong Sikui’s words were directed at him. After all, his mother was also married into another family, and their current home, his maternal grandfather’s estate, was the property everyone was fighting for.

Speaking of which, his father was really irresponsible. Not only was he lazy during his youth, but he also had a gambling addiction. He had gambled away their house. If it hadn’t been for his maternal grandfather’s sympathy, letting them move in, their family would probably still be cooped up in the small, two-room house with their grandfather.

In fact, he hoped to sell his grandfather’s house soon. Once that was done, they would get a share of the money which can be used to buy a new apartment. The current house didn’t even have a bathroom; living there felt suffocating.

Of course, the prerequisite for selling the house and dividing the property was not to share any of it with his uncle’s family. The difference between splitting the property into three or two was not a trivial matter.

Tong Sikui did not notice Lin Shuxin’s discomfort. The two soon arrived at the hospital entrance, barely missing Si Chen who was rushing over. Unfortunately, none of them recognized each other. They sparingly glanced at one another and then walked past as strangers.

Inside the ward, Tong Yaohui was in a huff, cursing Lin Shuxin for his misdeeds. A patient in the neighbouring bed chipped in, having witnessed the whole incident. Those people were clearly taking advantage of Tong Yaohui’s lack of a son.

Such relatives were best severed from one’s life as soon as possible. The two were engrossed in their conversation when they suddenly noticed Si Chen enter. The neighbour, assuming he was another troublemaker, promptly shut his mouth. After all, it was none of his business, and less trouble was always better. The daughter was already married, she wasn’t going to be their daughter-in-law anyway.

"Xiaochen, why did you come?" Seeing his son-in-law, Tong Yaohui’s expression made a 180-degree turn.

In Yaohui’s opinion, it is necessary to find a son-in-law one finds satisfying. Just looking at him made him happy.

"I heard after work that you were hospitalized, so I immediately rushed over." Si Chen approached the sickbed, ran through a set of checks for Tong Yaohui, then asked some detail about the doctors’ diagnoses. Only after confirming that it wasn’t a serious issue did he feel relieved.

"Don’t worry, your dad’s fine. Sit down and rest for a bit." Wen Yun motioned for Si Chen to sit by the bed for a while. The son-in-law had been at work all day, then had to rush over. He must be exhausted.

Si Chen complied and sat next to Tong Yao. The couple exchanged a glance, and then Yao started to spill the beans about the incident involving Tong Yaohui being hit and the subsequent commotion caused by their cousin and his brother. At the end, she angrily asked, "By the way, did you see Tong Sikui and Lin Shuxin? They left just a little while ago."

Recalling that Si Chen wouldn’t recognize the two, Tong Yao provided a fitting description: "Tong Sikui is fat like a rolly-polly, and Lin Shuxin is skinny like a bamboo pole. He has a pinched face and doesn’t seem trustworthy. Just looking at them is enough to make you want to punch them."

Thinking about the two people he encountered at the hospital entrance, Si Chen frowned and said, "I saw them."

After a moment of silence, he spoke to Tong Yaohui, "Dad, since they did not achieve their goal, they’ll definitely come again. Now that they know where you guys are staying, it’s going to be a headache. You won’t be able to rest properly. Why don’t we transfer you to my hospital tomorrow? That way, we can take care of you better."

If they were closer, he would be aware of any mishappenings, which would help in taking care of them. Otherwise, he wouldn’t feel at ease leaving the three of them here. Tong Sikui and Lin Shuxin could turn hostile at any moment since they hadn’t achieved their goal yet.

Wen Yun also thought their current hospital was not safe. Even though they wouldn’t dare to do anything significant in the hospital, the constant quarrel would make them ill.

However, Tong Yaohui shook his head, "No need to go through the trouble, I’ll be discharged tomorrow."

Si Chen casually said, "Then why don’t you guys stay at our place until this issue is settled."

"Yes," Tong Yao nodded vigorously, cooing, "Dad, if you don’t stay at our place, I will have to stay with you and mom all day. Until this issue is settled, wherever you guys are, I will be."

Yaohui wanted to be close to his daughter and son-in-law, but he considered that Si Chen’s place was a staff quarter, and was just a single-room apartment. If he and his wife moved in, it wouldn’t be convenient for the young couple.

But if they didn’t stay there, his daughter and son-in-law would surely be worried.

After living together for more than twenty years, Wen Yun could guess his hesitations.

"Your dad is probably thinking that it won’t be very convenient for us to stay there. How about this: we’ll rent a place near your’s for a while. During, the day when I’m free, I can cook for you and help around in your shop."

Fearing that Tong Yaohui would decline, Tong Yao hurriedly affirmed, "Okay, let’s do that, then. I won’t be going home tonight, I’ll manage the discharge procedures tomorrow, and then we’ll move over."

Seeing his daughter and son-in-law’s filial duty, Tong Yaohui couldn’t object. With a hint of reluctance, he eventually conceded. The patient in the neighbouring bed, now aware that Si Chen was Yaohui’s son-in-law, started heaping praises on him.

Hearing this made Tong Yaohui extremely proud. He repeatedly touted that he chose this son-in-law. Listening to this made Wen Yun roll her eyes and ask him to keep things low-key.

In the evening, Si Chen didn’t leave either. Wen Yun didn’t want Yao and Chen to stay up all night, so she let them return home to rest for the night.

By the time they got back home, it was already nine at night. After freshening up, Tong Yao sat cross-legged on the bed, holding her feet, blinking her clear eyes, and speaking to Si Chen taking off his shoes at the bedside, "Your family issues haven’t been resolved yet, and now mine have begun. That’s truly a headache! When you’re having your operation, don’t let these things divert your focus."

Si Chen nodded, turned sideway and affectionately ruffled Tong Yao’s hair. Speaking to her as if she were a child, he said, "You take more responsibility for mom and dad. The day after, I have to observe a major surgery that lasts ten hours. I’ll be very late returning home. Don’t wait for me, sleep early."

This was also one of the reasons he wanted Tong Yaohui transferred to his hospital. When he’s busy, he won’t have time to come here. If something happened, he wouldn’t be able to get there in time.
