Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Protecting Shortcomings
Tong Yao may not have had a deep understanding of medical knowledge, but she knew that to become a proficient doctor requires participating in many major surgeries and accumulating experience slowly. The rigor of a surgery lasting up to ten hours could only be imagined.
Tong Yao quickly made him lay on the bed to sleep, "You should rest as soon as possible. For the next few days, you don’t need to worry about anything. I will take care of mom and dad. Don’t worry too much on Boyi’s side either. As long as Lijuan truly wants to be with Boyi, Chen Jinlan would certainly agree."
Tong Yao couldn’t help with Si Chen’s work. All she could do was take care of household matters as effectively as possible.
Si Chen pulled the covers over Tong Yao carefully and lightly patted her shoulder, "Hmm, stop thinking about those things, sleep now!"
Thoughts about her parents kept disturbing Tong Yao’s sleep. She even dreamed of having a fight with Lin Shuxin, scratching his face. While she was scratching at the dream Lin Shuxin’s face, she suddenly felt her hand being seized. Struggling to wake up, she found that it was Si Chen holding her hand. Seeing her awake, Si Chen asked in resignation, "Bad dream?"
Tong Yao let out an awkward chuckle of embarrassment, "No, I was fighting with Lin Shuxin, scratching his face."
Si Chen lightly laughed, "In that case, his face must have suffered plenty from your scratches."
A moment ago, she started waving her hands about while sleeping. She was exerting a considerable amount of force if he didn’t stop her hands in time he would probably have a few scratch marks on his face now.
"Indeed, I had already made bloodstains, it’s just too bad I woke up too early. Otherwise, I would have beaten him to death. Not a single one in that family is decent, it’s no wonder they are occupying my grandfather’s house and refusing to move out."
Tong Yao sat up and looked at her watch. It was already six in the morning. She started to put on her clothes and said, "It’s already six o’clock, you should hurry back to work! I will go handle the hospital discharge for mom and dad and return home to pack their things before taking them over."
It would probably be at least ten days or a fortnight before they could return once they went over there. She would need to tidy up the house and prepare some daily supplies for her parents. It would take some time before she could leave, and Tong Yao didn’t want to disappoint Si Chen’s work schedule, so she urged him to go first.
"No rush, I’ll drop you off at the hospital first."
After Si Chen had put on his clothes and done his morning routines, checking that nothing was left behind, he took Tong Yao out of the door. At the entrance of the neighborhood, they ran into a woman sending her child to school. Seeing Si Chen and Tong Yao, young and handsome, she mistook them for a couple in their early stages of love, accompanied by a hint of disdain.
How could people not mistake, when the apparent young couple were holding hands while walking, a behavior unusual for many married couples. Hence the misunderstanding.
Upon reaching the entrance of the hospital, Tong Yao stopped Si Chen from coming in further, "You should hurry to work! If my parents saw that you still haven’t left, they would worry."
"Alright." Si Chen nodded, not insisting on going in, "Finish the discharge procedures as soon as possible, and move over without too much delay."
Si Chen didn’t linger, he spoke a few words of caution and turned around and left. The chill of early morning made Tong Yao’s cheeks red and rosy. She looked cute and lovely, which caught the attention of the passers-by who couldn’t help but take a few more glances.
When people saw pretty sights, they always enjoyed looking more. It wasn’t as much of a frivolous gesture as simply admiration.
On her way to the second floor of the Inpatient Department, before she even reached the door, she heard the sounds of sobbing coming from inside the ward. Upon entering, Tong Yao saw two women in their fifties sitting by Tong Yaohui’s hospital bed. One of them was crying, who was Lin Shuxin’s mother, Tong Xiangqiao, the other one sitting beside her with a mopey face was Yao Rong, her aunt.
"Brother, I am your real sister! Are you trying to drive us to death with what you’re doing? Weren’t we often playful when we were young? What difference is there now from when we were playing as kids! They were just drinking some alcohol, they didn’t mean to hit so hard. We are all past our seventies, would you really have the heart to send them to prison? If you couldn’t think about their feelings, at least think about Shuxin and Sikui, think about your grandchildren! Brother, you can’t ruin several generations of us all at once, you should accumulate more virtues for Yaoyao."
Tong Xiangqiao was crying pitifully by Tong Yaohui’s bed as if they had been wronged. Not only was she playing the kinship card, but she was also accusing her brother of being heartless, not considering the feelings of his siblings, and acting too excessively.
It seemed as for Tong Yaohui getting beaten was just the same as children playing, and Tong Yaohui should not retaliate in kind.
Wen Yun, standing to aside, had turned green with fury. Her husband had been beaten, and she was already heartbroken. And now, after her nephews had come to cause trouble yesterday, her sister-in-law and her biological sister had come crying early in the morning, sounding as mournful as if they were in mourning, and even involved her daughter.
If those blaming words Taohui all boiled down to one thing, it would be that Tong Yaohui deserved to be beaten, while those who hit him were the ones being wronged.
Wen Yun was so furious that she was gasping for breath, and Tong Yaohui was practically fuming with rage. Tong Yao, standing in the doorway, couldn’t stand to listen any longer and entered with an annoyed rejoinder.
"If you want to mourn, go to my grandfather’s grave and mourn. What are you doing in here? If I didn’t know that you came here to beg for mercy, I would think my uncle had died and you had come to announce his death." 𝓷ℴ𝓿𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂
Tong Xiangqiao paused for a couple of seconds, only then realizing that the person who had walked in was Tong Yao. It had been two or three years since she had seen Tong Yao last. This niece of hers had grown more attractive. She used to be a spoilt and willful child, but now, having gotten married, she carried an air of maturity about her.
Nonetheless, she had no reason to be afraid of Tong Yao. She was the elder and Tong Yao was the younger, there was no reason for the elder to fear the younger. Even if she were to beat her up now, Tong Yao had to endure it.
Especially when she heard the words following Tong Yao, Tong Xiangqiao turned furious and shot up to her feet, pointing and yelling, "You damn child, in broad daylight, who are you saying is announcing whose death? Who are you cursing with these inauspicious words?"
Upon seeing this, Wen Yun immediately came over to shield Tong Yao, "Xiangqiao, watch your mouth!"
Out of sisterly respect, Wen Yun had been putting up with Xiangqiao and hadn’t driven her away yet. But Tong Yao was her bottom line. Anyone who dared to bully Tong Yao would face her wrath.
Knowing that Wen Yun was a sensible and well-behaved woman, unlike her elder sister who could make a fuss, Tong Xiangqiao was not afraid of her, "Second sister-in-law, you are just too soft on Yaoyao. Look at how you’ve spoiled her. She has no manners, doesn’t even acknowledge her aunt, and even curses at her uncle-in-law. Tell me, is it alright not to discipline her?"
Through all of her calculations, there was one thing that Tong Xiangqiao had miscalculated.
Tong Yao was the lifeblood of Wen Yun. She was the daughter that she had carried for ten months, gave birth to. Whether it was an aunt or even a grandfather, no one was allowed to bully her child.
Wen Yun, her chest heaving with outrage, declared, "Yaoyao is my daughter, her father and I are both alive, it’s not up to others to discipline her."
