Chapter 243: Chapter 243 Aunt Throws a Tantrum

Seeing that Wen Yun was protecting Tong Yao, Tong Xiangqiao scoffed, "Go on and spoil her! I’d love to see what you turn her into."

I must say, Tong Xiangqiao and Yao Rong, mother and son, were quite adept at making things worse but not better.

As the conversation drifted further and further off topic, an anxious Yao Rong quickly interjected, "Xiangqiao, we’ve come to talk things over with our second brother, not to discipline Yaoyao. Stop fussing with a child."

Tong Xiangqiao rolled her eyes, thinking, ’Only you can play the good person. Tong Yao wasn’t cursing you, so it’s easy for you to stand there and talk, isn’t it?’

Despite these thoughts, she didn’t continue lecturing Tong Yao. There were more urgent matters at hand. First, she needed to get her second brother to write a reconciliation letter.

With that in mind, Tong Xiangqiao changed her somewhat abhorrent demeanor and pleaded, "Second brother, once they get out of the Detention Center, I’ll have them come and apologize to you, okay? They are getting old. It’s not right for them to be locked up there like this!"

It would be okay if keeping them locked up could solve the problem, but that was sadly not the case.

Yao Rong quickly chimed in, "Second Brother, it’s indisputable that your older brother did wrong. As his wife, I’m here to personally apologize to you. If you’re still not satisfied, let Wen Yun give me a beating to vent your anger. If that’s still not enough, you can retaliate once your brother comes out, and we promise not to make a fuss."

A sarcastic smile crept onto Tong Yao’s face. If they were indeed beaten up, she figured Yao Rong would be singing a different tune by now. Fortunately, her father was not a man easily swayed.

Tong Yaohui scoffed, "Sister-in-law, if you want to reconcile, you need to first put up for sale the property our father left behind. Once the property is sold, the share of the proceeds will go to whom it should belong, then we can talk about reconciliation."

Even though they had a fight, they were still brothers after all. Tong Yaohui didn’t want to go to extremes. As long as his elder brother and brother-in-law compromised and divided the property according to their father’s will, he would let the matter rest and disregard his elder brother and sister in the future.

Upon hearing that the property was to be divided, Yao Rong’s face fell. She exclaimed discontentedly, "Second Brother, we’re talking about the assault incident. Why bring up the property? Let each matter be a matter of its own. Don’t mix the two together!"

The mention of the property made Tong Xiangqiao reveal her true colors. She put on a long face and argued, "So, second brother, you’re unwilling to reconcile just because of the property? Listen, you only have one daughter. What do you need the property for? Is money all you care about, not brotherly love? You surely know that my family has no home. At my age, do you really want to see me homeless?" 𝓷ℴ𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝒸𝓸𝓶

Hearing this, Tong Yaohui, reluctant to repeat himself, grimly said, "I’ve made it clear. Make your own choices. If there’s nothing else, go back and think things through."

The property is rightfully Tong Yaohui’s as well. By making this move, he had already made the largest concession possible. It was tantamount to being beaten up for nothing while only reclaiming what was his. Yet Yao Rong and Tong Xiangqiao didn’t see it this way!

They thought that since Tong Yaohui had no son, he shouldn’t be entitled to a share of the property. If Tong Yao, a married daughter, took the property, wouldn’t it end up in the hands of outsiders?

Why should they have to make up for their daughter’s poor marriage choice?

Seeing that Tong Yaohui was standing firm, Yao Rong and Tong Xiangqiao realized their soft coaxing and cry of misfortune of no use, Yao Rong simply shed her veneer and revealed her true self.

"What’s there to discuss? Second Brother, if you truly want to divide the property, then give your second sister-in-law another son. I promise, as soon as you two have a son, I will move out immediately, and I won’t take a penny of what’s rightfully yours."

What an outrageous thing to say!

Wen Yun was so furious she nearly passed out. She couldn’t believe Tong Xiangqiao could utter such outrageous words just to monopolize the property.

Tong Yao was also taken aback by Tong Xiangqiao’s audacity. Some people liked to stereotype rural folks as unreasonable. Little did they know that some people were just naturally thick-skinned and unscrupulous, regardless of their place of birth.

"My father has made himself clear. Until you two have made a decision, don’t bother us again."

But the two stubbornly refused to leave as their aim hadn’t been achieved yet. Tong Xiangqiao decided to resort to crying, kicking up a fuss, and threatening to hang herself, wailing and slapping her thigh, "Oh my god! Everybody come to see this. I can’t bear it any longer. A brother blackmailing his sister? What a disgrace! Oh, my poor father! Why did you have to die so soon? If you were still alive, surely you wouldn’t allow me to be bullied like this ..."

Albeit not as shameless as Tong Xiangqiao, Yao Rong was wiping tears at the side, acting as if she had been wronged greatly. However, a closer observation would reveal that it was all smoke and no fire—their crying was more noise than tears. The ruckus they caused ended up attracting quite a crowd to the hospital ward.

Wen Yun felt weak. Tong Yao quickly supported her and helped her sit down. Tong Yaohui’s face turned as black as iron. Despite the frustration, he couldn’t hit his sister and sister-in-law. He ended up coughing violently out of anger.

Seeing her parents being aggravated to such an extent, Tong Yao lost her patience. She rudely dragged Tong Xiangqiao to the ground and said coldly, "If you need to cry and make a scene, do it elsewhere. Stop making a fuss here. Go back to your own home if you have to mourn. If you continue to harass us here and something happens to my parents, you can join your husband in the Detention Center!"

Tong Xiangqiao, caught off guard, fell to the ground with a thud, her buttock aching from the impact. This small spark instantly ignited her temper. To be honest, she was a bit scared of her second brother subconsciously, which was why she only played the victim and made a scene instead of physically confronting him and his second wife.

The second brother and wife cared about their reputation and hence was unable to do anything about her. But if they didn’t compromise, all this noise would be in vain.

However, Tong Yao was just a younger generation. How could she possibly fail to handle her?

Tong Xiangqiao clumsily got up from the ground, her face contorted in rage. She pointed at Tong Yao and cursed, "You shameless girl! Even after marrying off, you’re still stirring up your parents to fight over the property. Who do you think you are? If I can’t discipline your parents, can’t I discipline you?"

"Watch your mouth. I’m Tong Yaohui’s daughter, and you’ve got no right to curse me." Tong Yaohui was instantly enraged when he saw his sister insulting his daughter.

He might seem indifferent to his daughter in normal times and always complained about his daughter being spoiled, blaming his wife for pampering her. However, his love for his daughter was no less than his wife’s.

Wen Yun pulled Tong Yao behind her protectively, "Xiangqiao, I’ve been polite to you out of regard for the fact that you’re Yaohui’s sister. But if you dare insult Yaoyao again, don’t blame me for being impolite."

The saying ’one can be as brave as a lioness when her child is threatened’ proved true. Normally gentle Wen Yun was standing firm now.

Tong Yao was moved by her parents’ protection. As long as their family stood united like twisted ropes, nobody could bully them or seize their properties. So, she poked her head out from behind Wen Yun and said, "Tong Xiangqiao, you’d better weigh your options carefully. If you continue to make a scene, I’ll see you in court. When that happens, your man will need to be ready for a criminal record, and my share of the property isn’t going anywhere."
