Chapter 413: Chapter 413: Yaoyao, what are you looking at?

After a heavy snowfall overnight, everything outside was blanketed in white. The snow was knee-deep.
Tong Yao, dressed in a thick cotton jacket that made her look like a teddy bear, had originally agreed to meet Wang Chun at a milk tea shop. However, before Yao could reach the shop, Wang Chun had arrived in a small car to pick her up. They ran into each other on the way.
"Yaoyao, get in the car." Wang Chun opened the car door and beckoned Tong Yao over. "The snowfall was pretty heavy last night, and the snow piled up quite a bit outside. Akai had arranged a car to bring me here since he didn’t need it today. Let’s take the car to the Suburb!"
With a car to ride in, Tong Yao naturally didn’t want to walk. She gave the Suburb address and the driver, Xiaoliu, seemed to inattentively flash a hint of worry in his eyes when he heard the address but didn’t say anything.
On the way, Tong Yao and Wang Chun discussed Lin Fengying’s visit to her parents to ask her to divorce Si Chen, which shocked Wang Chun.
"Your mother-in-law is going too far! She actually went to see your parents. What kind of mother-in-law does that? You have such a good relationship with Dr. Si, why would you want a divorce?"
Tong Yao, looking at the scenery zooming past the window, heaved a sigh, "I know her dirty secrets, so she can’t stand me anymore."
"So, what are you two going to do now?" Wang Chun was more anxious than Tong Yao, her small face being written up in worry, "Yaoyao, are you really going to divorce Dr. Chen because of your mother-in-law?"
Seeing Wang Chun so worried, Tong Yao feigned a relaxed air, "Don’t worry! At present, it’s not that extreme yet."
Wang Chun let out a sigh of relief, "That’s good, if both of you get divorced, I would start doubting love."
Tong Yao blinked her eyes, said humorously, "You two are so in love, why doubt love?"
"But you two are also in love!" Wang Chun’s tone was as gentle as ever, "I feel more confident about love when I see happy people around me. If even a couple like you two with such a good relationship break up, I would start feeling insecure too. Perhaps this is the butterfly effect!"
"You’re worrying over nothing..." Tong Yao chuckled. Her attention was suddenly caught by a familiar figure on the side of the road, but before she could get a good look, the car had driven off.
Tong Yao leaned against the window and tried to look back, but Xiaoliu suddenly swerved the car, blocking her view.
Spotting Tong Yao’s action, Wang Chun leaned in and looked curiously out the window, "Yaoyao, what are you looking at?"
"I thought I saw someone familiar, but I didn’t get a good look so I’m not sure. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me!" Thoughts whirled around in Tong Yao’s head as she glanced at Xiaoliu’s silhouette in the rearview mirror, Xiaoliu’s sudden swerve seemed too convenient as if he did not want her to see something.
There were hardly any people out in the snow and no other vehicles on the road. He could have just kept driving straight, there was no need for him to swerve earlier.
"Is it a friend of yours?" Wang Chun asked softly, "If you want to say hello, we can drive back. We haven’t come too far."
Tong Yao shook her head in refusal, "No need, I’m just curious as to why she would be here."
Actually, the person she saw earlier reminded her of Lin Man. She was curious, what was Lin Man doing here? Lin’s new house was not on this side, and this was near the Suburb. What was Lin Man doing here?
"I see!" Wang Chun she didn’t question her any further.
The car quickly arrived at the construction site. It seemed to have changed a lot since last time she came. There was also a building being erected next to the plot of land she bought which seemed to have started construction earlier than theirs, already two-stories high and likely to be completed by the first half of the next year.
But the foundation of her building wasn’t even complete yet. Due to the heavy snowfall, there were no workers present today. There were only two older men wielding brooms, sweeping the snow off the site.
Originally, she planned to walk and take a closer look at the site, but as soon as she approached the site, one of the older men sweeping the snow stopped her, offering clear-hearted advice.
"Little girl, you can’t go in there. It’s not safe. Some foundation pits haven’t been filled yet, and the piled-up snow is a bit deep. It’s very dangerous if you accidentally step into one."
"Thank you." having heard the old man’s words, Tong Yao didn’t insist on getting in, instead, she asked curiously, "Grandpa, there are no safety signs here. What happens if someone unknowingly steps into one?"
The old man waved his hand and laughed, "That won’t happen, we will take turns guarding here. This was contracted by my son. I am too old to do much so I’m helping him watch the site."
Upon hearing this, Tong Yao felt somewhat relieved, but she still advised, "Grandpa, I think it would be better if there were some safety signs here, or maybe you could fence the construction site. It could be dangerous if someone walked in accidentally, especially if it’s dark."
Upon hearing this, the old man thoughtfully considered for a moment. He seemed to realize there was some sense in what Tong Yao had suggested, he nodded, "I will mention this to my son."
Seeing him take the advice to heart, Tong Yao didn’t say anything else and headed back to the car.
The snow was thick and there was nothing much to see here. Initially, Tong Yao planned to visit another construction site but decided against it after some thought.
On the way back, Tong Yao paid special attention to the location where she had seen Lin Man disappear. It was a newly opened hotel. The style of the hotel was quite good, it could probably be ranked three stars or higher if it was in the 21st century.
Lin Man hadn’t mentioned having a boyfriend. Why was she here at the hotel?
Staying one night here was not cheap, recently Lin Man seems to be spending like a person of wealth.
Perhaps it was her misperception, but Tong Yao felt that the car started to speed up. Her eyes flashed, she quickly shouted.
"Could you please stop the car? I’m hungry. Let’s go down and get something to eat."
"Ms. Tong, there is a bun shop ahead. Why don’t I stop there? It’s hard to park here." Xiaoliu showed no intention of stopping the car at all.
Tong Yao felt a flicker of suspicion but turned to Wang Chun and said, "Ahchen, I really want the pancake from the shop we just passed."
Upon hearing this, Wang Chun immediately addressed the driver. "Xiaoliu, could you please drive back a bit? I also want to eat the pancake."
"..." Xiaoliu pursed his lips. Though he was somewhat reluctant, he still reversed the car. However, when Tong Yao got out of the car, he specifically instructed.
"Ms. Tong, could you please be quick? We can’t park here arbitrarily."
Tong Yao, with a mischievous smile, opened the door and got out of the car. "It might take a while for me to buy the pancakes. You can drive ahead and wait for me!"
Xiaoliu: "..."
"It’s okay, you go and buy it! We are not in a rush." Wang Chun said softly.
Tong Yao closed the car door and walked straight into the breakfast shop. After buying two pancakes, she didn’t immediately return to the car but headed towards the entrance of the hotel instead.
The front desk of the hotel was attended by a pretty young lady in her twenties. On seeing Tong Yao walking in, she immediately greeted her with a smile, "Hello, are you here to check in?"
