Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Lost Consciousness?

Upon hearing this, Fu Yiheng handed the flashlight to Han Enzhen, "Hey, girl, are you hurt? If you’re not, hold this flashlight and help us with the light."

Han Enzhen hurriedly took the flashlight and shook her head, "I’m not injured, it’s dark now and I don’t know the way, you guys lead the way!"

On hearing this, Si Chen took the lead carrying Tong Yao with Fu Yiheng following him carrying Guo Jinnian. Despite his talkative nature, he was incredibly careful to not hurt her throughout the journey.

Han Enzhen, who was behind them all, held the flashlight to guide them. She was less frightened than before and stepped carefully through the accumulated water.

Si Chen and Fu Yiheng had scouted the nearby area hence they knew where the water was deep and where it was shallow. They led Han Enzhen to the shallow water areas; the deepest spot reached only up to their waists.

In areas where the current was strong, they asked Han Enzhen to walk in front of them. That way, if anything happened, they would be able to assist her promptly.

After approximately an hour, they finally reached the overbridge, where the medical and rescue teams had dropped some supplies. Tong Yao saw that Si Chen had been carrying her all along, and she felt sorry for him. She tried to get down and walk by herself but he wouldn’t let her.

Si Chen carried Tong Yao to a secluded spot in the middle of the bridge, where Zhou Minyue, seeing that they had returned, approached. When she noticed Tong Yao’s injury, she expressed her surprise.

"How did you get injured? Where have you two been hiding? Dr. Si has been looking for you two all day and hasn’t rested even once."

Before Tong Yao could speak, Si Chen sternly said, "If you’re not tired then take a walk under the bridge."

Zhou Minyue’s face turned as sullen as if she’d been eating spoiled vegetables for the past ten days. She hadn’t expected Si Chen to snap at her like that. The area under the bridge was full of stagnated water, how could anyone take a stroll there?

She pressed her lips, "I just asked a few more questions because I was worried about Tong Yao."

Fu Yiheng got Guo Jinnian to one side and interrupted, "Dr. Si is worried about Tong Yao and he’s not in a good mood. Why don’t you get some rest! Go on! Who has the time to satisfy your curiosity?"

Zhou Minyue, feeling disrespected, chose to sit quietly at a side.

Only then Fu Yiheng said to Si Chen, "Dr. Si, please wait here for a while, I’ll go get the medical box."

Si Chen was checking Tong Yao’s pulse and nodded in agreement, responding softly, "Thank you."

As soon as she saw this, Han Enzhen put the flashlight on the ground and hurriedly tagged along with Fu Yiheng, "I’m coming with you."

There were relief supplies over there, and Han Enzhen wanted to bring some over. They were all cold and hungry and desperately needed some food and comfort.

Fu Yiheng didn’t refuse her. There were quilts and food at the bridgehead, more than he could carry alone.

They both sidestepped the people sleeping beside the bridge and quickly reached the bridgehead. Fu Yiheng successfully received a medical kit from the school staff. But when he went to collect the living essentials, he encountered a problem.

The foreign man in charge of distributing the materials refused to give him any quilts, stating that only women and children were eligible to receive quilts. Given the limited resources, they could not provide a quilt for every person. Fu Yiheng felt helpless so he tried to get some more bread and water instead, but only got a single portion.

Han Enzhen also went to collect quilts and supplies. Initially, she was only allowed one quilt. But after she tearfully pleaded that her two injured sisters also needed quilts, she successfully got two. She pulled the same trick and managed to get some extra portions of food.

Fu Yiheng was amazed, it seemed that men from any country could not resist beautiful women. If only he had pretended to be a transgender earlier, he might have gotten an extra loaf of bread...

Tong Yao was patiently standing, waiting for Si Chen to check her pulse. She noticed his wrinkled brows relaxing slightly and felt relieved, "Is the baby alright?"

Si Chen shook his head, "Don’t worry, it’s fine."

After saying that, he reached out to brush away Tong Yao’s bangs to check the wound on her face, but she stopped him.

"Stop looking at me and check on Jinnian. Her arm was twisted by that evil man. Since it was dark and we didn’t have any lights, I just fixed her arm as well as I could."

She had only done it to prevent Guo Jinnian’s arm from getting damaged further. She didn’t know how to apply medical treatment and was unsure if she had done it correctly.

At the time, Guo Jinnian was sitting on the ground. Upon hearing that Tong Yao was alright, she felt relieved. Just as she was about to speak, she noticed them turning their attention on her. Before she could say anything, Si Chen squatted down and Tong Yao shone the flashlight on her.

Being the centre of attention was new to Guo Jinnian, and she hurriedly said, "Yaoyao, don’t worry. My arm doesn’t hurt anymore."

Upon hearing this, Si Chen frowned, "You can’t feel it anymore?"

Guo Jinnian couldn’t lie in front of Dr. Si, so she had to tell the truth, "I can feel it, it hurts a lot."

How could a broken arm not hurt without anesthesia? It hurt so much that her clothes were soaked.

Si Chen didn’t say anything but only stated, "Sorry for the intrusion."

Si Chen then removed the stick that Tong Yao had tied around her arm, tore open Guo Jinnian’s sleeve, and examined it. Her arm was now as swollen as her calf and the area around the fracture was discoloured. It wasn’t a pretty sight but at least there was no bleeding.

Si Chen held her arm and looked at it for a bit, eventually saying, "I need to check if your bone is misplaced."

Guo Jinnian nodded and immediately a sharp pain surged through her arm. She almost fainted, feeling as if she was having an out-of-body experience.

Thankfully, Si Chen quickly finished checking, he said in a soft voice, "The bone is in place for now. I will fix it again with a stick. Try not to move this arm as much as possible. Once it is light in a few hours, I’ll take you to the hospital."

After finishing his sentence, he quickly fixed the stick back onto her arm and looked towards Guo Jinnian.

Guo Jinnian nodded, gritting her teeth while repressing the pain, she asked, "Dr. Si, will there be any residual effects on my arm? Will it heal as a normal person’s arm?"

Si Chen responded, "It depends on your recovery requirements. You can do normal things like eating with chopsticks and other simple tasks without any problems. But it would be best if you refrain from lifting heavy items, especially in the next two years."

Guo Jinnian breathed a sigh of relief, as long as she wasn’t disabled, it was fine.

Tong Yao also breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Our business is more legitimate now. You don’t have to fight with hooligans for territory and you don’t have to do any kind of labour. As long as it doesn’t affect your normal life, it’s all good."

Guo Jinnian nodded, "At least we got away safely this time. It’s worth enduring a little hardship."

Tong Yao said sorrowfully, "Sorry for dragging you into this."

If she hadn’t come with Tong Yao, Guo Jinnian wouldn’t have had to suffer through all of it.
