Chapter 656: Chapter 656: Would You Like Something to Drink?
Tong Yao was also worried about her daughter. She nodded obediently at Si Chen’s words, and after some sweet moments together, she urged him to hurry to the hospital. After all, since Tong Yaohui had called yesterday, he had not contacted her again.
Without seeing the child, she felt as if she was missing something, leaving her with an unsettling feeling.
Si Chen nodded, just about to leave, when a knock came at the door. Immediately after, they heard Wen Yun joyfully exclaim, "Yaoyao, Xiaochen, you and Hongwei have brought the child back."
Hearing this, Tong Yao’s eyes instantly lit up, and Si Chen’s gaze was clearly delighted. He got up and opened the door to see Wen Yun holding a child at the door. Upon seeing Si Chen open the door, she said, "Take a look, this is your daughter."
Si Chen carefully took the baby from Wen Yun. Despite her son and daughter being born the same day, he felt his daughter was more delicate and fragile, especially seeing her eyebrows and eyes resembling Tong Yao, his face was full of tender emotions.
He carried his daughter to Tong Yao, "Look, our daughter. She looks a lot like you."
Tong Yao’s eyes reddened, and she almost cried again, but thinking about how crying would be bad for her eyes, she quickly held back her tears and then made a light joke, "The son takes after you, the daughter takes after me, it’s really fair. Hurry up and let me hold her."
Si Chen gently put the child into Tong Yao’s arms. The child seemed to dislike being passed around, frowning and pouting. Tong Yao chuckled, "It seems like she’s going to have a big temper in the future, look at her frowning after being held just twice."
"It’s okay for girls to be a little fussy." Si Chen had already shown signs of being a doting dad to his daughter.
Tong Yao pinched the child’s little face and said with concern, "She was born prematurely and she’s still very skinny. We’ll have to feed her more in the future."
Si Chen loved his daughter, but cared for Tong Yao even more. He said, "Put the baby aside to sleep first, and you should rest. Don’t hold her for too long, or your arm will hurt later."
Tong Yao chuckled, "You’re the doctor, I’ll listen to you."
Si Chen pinched Tong Yao’s nose and helped her lie down, covering her with a thin blanket. Then he opened the window a bit for ventilation. Tong Yao quickly hid her head in the blanket, revealing only her eyes as she whined, "Aren’t women who’ve just given birth not supposed to be exposed to drafts?"
Seeing Tong Yao’s serious and surprised expression, Si Chen’s heart felt like it was tickled by feathers. He smiled with indulgent eyes and said, "Don’t worry, the wind outside isn’t strong, and the window I opened can’t let wind blow on the bed. Bad air circulation is bad for both you and the baby. You rest for a while, I’ll go out and chat with Dad and Hongwei. They’ve been working hard for the baby."
If not for Tong Yaohui and Gu Hongwei, Tong Yao would have felt very helpless while he was away.
Only then did Tong Yao stick her head out from the blanket, "Then you should hurry! Remember to take the baby with you when you come out."
Si Chen leaned over and kissed Tong Yao softly on the forehead, "You rest for a while, I’ll be back soon."
After saying that, Si Chen went out and gently closed the door.
Gu Hongwei and Tong Yaohui were sitting on the living room sofa talking to Wen Yun, while Sister Zheng was busy cooking in the kitchen. Seeing Si Chen come out, Wen Yun smiled, "Xiaochen, it’s good that you came out. I was just discussing with your father about hiring another nanny. Sister Zheng recommended a friend who will come for an interview this afternoon."
Si Chen nodded, "Mom, you can handle this."
Wen Yun nodded, "Alright, if the person seems suitable this afternoon, I’ll keep her directly. Now with two children, Yaoyao and I can’t manage by ourselves. We need someone to lend a hand and help with the housework."
Si Chen nodded in agreement, then turned to Tong Yaohui and Gu Hongwei, "Dad, Hongwei, you’ve worked hard."
Tong Yaohui had reclaimed his granddaughter, and now as a grandfather with a grandson and granddaughter, he felt very happy. Waving his hand, he said, "Xiaochen, it’s all in the family. Yaoyao is my daughter, and the children are my grandchildren. No matter how much I do, it’s my duty. As long as our family is good, I don’t mind the hard work."
Gu Hongwei felt guilty and said, "It was my fault for not looking after Yaoyao well before, which led to all these troubles. Fortunately, we found the child. If not, I wouldn’t dare to face you."
Si Chen calmly said, "You’ve been a great help during this time. The incident with the child is not your fault. Don’t overthink it."
Tong Yaohui nodded in agreement, laughing heartily, "Xiaochen is right, Hongwei, we really appreciate your help during this time. Let’s not dwell on guilt or gratitude. It’s already great that we’ve found the child."
He turned to Si Chen, and asked, "Xiaochen, have you decided on the names?"
Si Chen nodded and said, "Dad, Mom. I propose we name the boy Si Yang, and the girl Tong Yue. How do you feel about these names?"
Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun both paused. After exchanging glances, they responded in surprise, "Xiaochen, are you planning to have the daughter carry my surname?" 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝒑𝙪𝒃.𝒄𝒐𝙢
Si Chen nodded, "Each child will follow one of us. Yaoyao and I have discussed it and think it’s good. What do you think?"
Tong Yaohui nodded again and again, laughing, "Good, good, good. As long as you and Yaoyao approve, we have no objections."
Although Tong Yaohui did not believe in favoring sons over daughters or the old notion of carrying on the family line, he was still very happy to have a child carrying his surname. Wen Yun was also delighted. She finally understood why Tong Yaohui had chosen Si Chen to be his son-in-law in the first place.
Their daughter had married the right man.
In the future, when they got older, they wouldn’t have to worry about Yaoyao being left uncared for.
After discussing and finalizing this matter, Tong Yaohui was in a rush to register the children. Wen Yun laughed and stopped him, "What’s the hurry? Xiaochen has already brought it up, he won’t go back on his word. Anyway, you should wait until after we’ve eaten before you go."
Tong Yaohui realized he had indeed been overly excited after being reminded by Wen Yun.
Si Chen bringing up this matter was just adding joy on top of joy for Tong Yaohui. He was in such a good mood that he wanted to have a couple of drinks during lunch. Wen Yun stopped him because Tong Yaohui’s brain still had a tumor. Although he hadn’t had any episodes recently, he still needed to pay attention to his diet.
Tong Yaohui couldn’t persuade Wen Yun, so he turned to Si Chen, "Xiaochen, is it okay if I have a little drink?"
Si Chen asked, "Is the last set of test results still around?"
Wen Yun nodded, "Yes, I’ll go get them for you."
Wen Yun went back to the room and quickly brought out a stack of medical reports. Si Chen flipped through them. The tumor hadn’t grown, and everything seemed to be within normal limits, so he said, "Dad, you can have a little. But don’t drink too much."
If the tumor didn’t continue to grow, it would be better not to have surgery. After all, Tong Yaohui was getting older, and once surgery was involved, his health would decline significantly.
Tong Yaohui laughed and nodded, "That’s enough, a little drink will do. I just want to have a taste to lift the mood."
